Hasn't the big 12 made it clearly known that they are not interested in OSU and WSU? Yes "But Grandpa...." "Why is the Big12......"

The Big 12 has been very down on Wazzu for more than a decade. It's too cold and traveling their sucks. Wazzu being a conference member was cited as a reason by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M as one of the top five reasons to not join the Pac-14 or Pac-16. A bigwig on one of those four teams had a very bad experience in Pullman once and would not want to be in the same conference basically. And it continues to poison Wazzu. Oregon State without a second team on the West Coast is a non-starter, and Wazzu is a non-starter as that team. Maybe the Big 12 reconsiders in two years, when the Mountain West contract runs out and takes Oregon State with a Boise or San Diego State. However, until then, there is about a one-in-a-million chance that Oregon State joins the Big 12 before 2026, unless there is an odd number of teams that join the Big 12 from elsewhere. The bigwig probably tried to talk his way out of a traffic ticket and failed, or maybe he was refused eggs over easy.

Pretty sure Yormark has never specifically said the Big 12 would not take Oregon State and/or Washington State. Here is what he actually said: “Right now, we're done. We had a vision, we had a strategy and effectively we’ve been able to execute it. Initially, I wasn’t sure if we’d go to 14 or 16 (universities). I think 16 was kind of the dream scenario candidly. From our perspective, our focus right now is to integrate the four incoming schools as quick as we can — get them comfortable. We’ve already had a couple of transition calls and Zooms with the corner schools, and I’ll be making some campus visits. That’s my focus right now.” My big question is how much you can read into the "right now, we're done." With the speed of change in college football, right now could mean for the next few weeks, months or the next offseason or even years. Personally, I think it means at least until the next offseason. And I don't believe for a second that they are done (forever) at 16. Of course, he could add four more teams and leave out OSU and WSU anyway.

I stand with Wazzu.....F all the haters. And can we stop saying non-starter? It's right up there with nothing burger for me. If you promise no one says: "But, if the B12..." 😉 If the B12 came calling, I would hope they would want us, and Wazzu......if only us then say SDSU, or another school, then so be it. I have no control over any of it, so I'm kind of letting go of some of the anger, and disappointment.

Now we have finally heard it. Wazzu is the reason why Oregon State can't land in a conference. So now there are 11 members that are now causing us angst. I have heard all the reasons on why we are not invited in the last month but this is a new one. So you are saying put the knife in the back of WSU and start plans on working with SDSU or Boise?
What if WSU and Boise State State join as a pair. I could see that being a good option for WSU too but that is where you have to take it if you are saying everything else. Sheeesh! There is a reason that Oregon State and San Diego State in tandem was floated after the first four teams joined the Big 12 about four weeks ago. Wazzu is the dead albatross around our necks. Happy to keep playing them. Lots of history. But we may have to destroy our past, in order to build a better future at some point.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I'll say it anyway: Is the Big-12 really a good destination for Oregon State? Nebraska and Texas A&M have already left. Oklahoma and Texas are leaving. This is not the conference it once was. This Wiki page shows who is in the Big-12, and maps of locations of the schools: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_12_ConferenceMy concern isn't just about travel, which has already been discussed. It's recruiting. How are our coaches supposed to go to the S.F. Bay Area and Los Angeles and recruit kids to come to Corvallis so they can compete in Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa, and Kansas? Historically, what percentage of the athletes we get to come to Corvallis are from states outside those we compete in? So, if we were able to join the Big-12, then it seems like we need to move our recruiting east to the states we're competing in. Without any real evidence to support this, I want to believe we need to compete in the states we recruit in. And presently that's the West Coast.

AZ, AZ State, Utah and CU are in the B12 - if they were to add us and Wazzu, well it'd be little change overall from current P12... We recruit heavily in TX and CA, as wells in the PNW that wouldn't change much...

Plus if OSU and WSU were added to the Big 12, the travel would be mitigated for OSU because of the presence of Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado, WSU and BYU. Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and Kansas add some miles but are far from a major problem. Texas in particular allows for pretty easy travel. You can get to most of those schools in just a few more hours than you would going to probably half of the current Pac-12 schools anyway (and we can forget going to Seattle and maybe even Eugene at this point). Cincinnati, UCF and West Virginia are long trips but overall it's by far the best option among the so-called power conferences for travel. There's also a pretty good possibility that the Big 12 would divide the travel so it wouldn't be as hard on the Olympic sports.

Without any real evidence to support this, I want to believe we need to compete in the states we recruit in. And presently that's the West Coast. To address the first half of your post, yes, the Big 12 is a good destination for Oregon State. The big reason is that it still holds a place as a power conference. It has a TV deal and that provides a certain level of stability (just look at what happened to the Pac-12). Yes, the Big 12 is taking a step back with the loss of Oklahoma and Texas. The addition of Utah helps considerably, IMO. TCU's success last year helped a lot but you're not going to be able to count on the Horned Frogs or programs like Kansas State or Oklahoma State year in and year out. This is actually why I would give OSU a lot more consideration if I were running the Big 12. I do believe the Beavers are at the point with Smith where they've moved into at least second tier status nationally. And I believe Smith would be in a great position to keep it that way if the Beavers were to go to the Big 12. The Big 12 is also a much better fit for OSU's other sports as well. Men's basketball is going to be great there. Same with women's hoops. Baseball? Big 12 is very good. Gymnastics? Check. Wresting? Check. The MWC has a just few programs competing in those two sports. Men's soccer? The MWC doesn't have it. IMO, it's an absolute no-brainer to join if it ever becomes possible. And if OSU gets any kind of leverage to work with, I'd be using it toward that end.

If Stanford didn't have an elitist stick shoved so far up its a$$, the ideal solution would have been for the remaining PAC-4 to do a merger with the Big 12, and bring all of its assets, future revenue, and network with them to share among all 20 teams. We could have called it the Big-Pac, and had 8 teams in the west to form the foundation of a solid western division.
But nope, elitist arrogance wins the day again....

What don't some posters get.
THE B12 DIDN'T, AND STILL DOESN'T WANT OSU... AND/OR WSU.
Our AD made attempts. Rebuffed. B12 announced no more expansion for now. The Stanford/Cal decision had zero influence.
Guess what? That means the B12 isn't a great fit for OSU!!

That absolutely does not mean that the Big 12 is not a great fit for OSU. Barnes no doubt talked to Yormark and a lot of other people. Just because he wasn't offered something right away does not mean that it will never happen. And you have no information to refute that. I posted his statement somewhere on this part of the board. Personally, I believe there are a few things that would need to happen for OSU to get an offer. It might be unlikely (even extremely unlikely) but it's not a done deal one way or another. What IS a terrible fit for OSU athletics is the MWC. Terrible in every way except for travel. The money will be far less even if OSU/WSU can pull off a deal. Football will take a step back. If we're fortunate it won't be too drastic. So will baseball. There's not really a good option for wrestling or gymnastics. There's no option for men's soccer. If things don't work out financially, then OSU could be faced with making cuts. It would be a step down and one that will be almost impossible to step back up from once it's taken.

Join the crowd who just makes up "facts". What you don't know is most of what you think you say you do! And, why would I refute something that's not happening? And, changing the goalposts to "it will never happen"... well no one ever said never. Just not happening before the 2024 schedules need to be done. And, that's what matters.
