I've been assuming all along that OSU being the No. 2 team in Portland combined with TV viewership were the main factors working against the Beavers getting an offer to the Big 12 (the same with WSU as No. 2 in Seattle, etc. But I took a closer look at last year's TV numbers and now I'm not so sure. OSU was a shade below (two spots) Cincinnati. The Beavers had over 100k more viewers than UCF, almost 120k more than Arizona, over 300k more than Arizona State and nearly 400k more than Houston. OSU's numbers were better than the ACC's Miami, Wake Forest, Louisville, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Duke. I know that it's one season but it's not like OSU played a Michigan or Alabama to boost the numbers. Yes, men's basketball factors in for a few teams. It's got to be more about keeping the footprint somewhat close to home but that argument seems to fall apart when Yormark is reportedly targeting ACC schools. Thoughts? Opinions?

Hasn't the big 12 made it clearly known that they are not interested in OSU and WSU?

Hasn't the big 12 made it clearly known that they are not interested in OSU and WSU? I don't think they have come out and said it. They have come out and said they are done expanding for the time being. In otherwards, they have made their opinion be known without saying it. Now things can change in a heartbeat but don't hold your breath.

It’s all brand and media market. It’s stupid.

It’s all brand and media market. It’s stupid. OK, but isn't media market pretty much intertwined with TV viewership? And a few programs, like Oregon, are great at branding. Otherwise it's about success on the field. Except for Oregon State in both counts, it seems.

Hasn't the big 12 made it clearly known that they are not interested in OSU and WSU? Not the thread topic. But to answer your question, he said the Big 12 was done with expansion at 16 teams. But speculation is that he wants to get through the football season. Reports since then have been that he is looking at the ACC.

The Big 12 has been very down on Wazzu for more than a decade. It's too cold and traveling their sucks. Wazzu being a conference member was cited as a reason by Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas A&M as one of the top five reasons to not join the Pac-14 or Pac-16. A bigwig on one of those four teams had a very bad experience in Pullman once and would not want to be in the same conference basically. And it continues to poison Wazzu. Oregon State without a second team on the West Coast is a non-starter, and Wazzu is a non-starter as that team. Maybe the Big 12 reconsiders in two years, when the Mountain West contract runs out and takes Oregon State with a Boise or San Diego State. However, until then, there is about a one-in-a-million chance that Oregon State joins the Big 12 before 2026, unless there is an odd number of teams that join the Big 12 from elsewhere.

I had not heard about some of the Big 12 schools having a problem with WSU. Maybe OSU will have to go without the Cougs if it comes down to it. But if it was those four, well, one is already gone and two are leaving.

Now we have finally heard it. Wazzu is the reason why Oregon State can't land in a conference. So now there are 11 members that are now causing us angst. I have heard all the reasons on why we are not invited in the last month but this is a new one. So you are saying put the knife in the back of WSU and start plans on working with SDSU or Boise?
What if WSU and Boise State State join as a pair. I could see that being a good option for WSU too but that is where you have to take it if you are saying everything else. Sheeesh!

If you promise no one says: "But, if the B12..." 😉 Reminds of the time we were riding a Amtrak train and a Grandfather was sitting behind us and the real young grandson was at that well known question everything stage. "Grandpa are there sharks in that river?" "No there are no sharks in the river, they live in the Ocean" Grandson after 30 seconds: "Grandpa. do you see any sharks in the water" Grandpa then tries to explain where sharks live with serious logical answers. Then the young grand kid asks again about sharks in the river. This last for well over 15 minutes of round and round shark questions in regards to rivers. You all get the drift.
Finally, Grandpa now a little frustrated at this point says: "Don't you have something better to do and talk about something else?" Then the subject did change and it was "Grandpa.... But, where do birds live.........?."
We could not help and laugh at those exchanges. All true.
But ......why....
