With the likely hood of a large revenue drop after this season how are we going to stay competitive. Barnes said he is not cutting any sports which I think is a mistake. All sports will have smaller budgets but with two less teams it would alleviate some of the pain. The other way to increase revenue is through student athletic fees. Oregon State only charges a little over $120 per student. East Carolina a school is similar size changes each student almost $800 per year. Any decent increase would greatly help the athletic budget. Not sure how likely this is to happen but would help.

One of the cuts would have to be a significant men’s sport. So unless you want to cut baseball and gymnastics, it ain’t happening.

Men’s soccer and Mens’s rowing wouldn’t be a bad place start. But maybe there will be increased institutional monetary support to be able to keep all current athletic teams.

Do kids go to college to pay for teams? As one parent currently writing those checks, I emphatically say NO.
The problem with the collegiate athletics enterprise writ large is and has been for too many decades that it is not self-sustaining. The burden of financing teams should not be on the backs of the students who predominantly, as President Murthy told reporters this morning, don't go for the teams, but for the education.
