A dozen or more years ago should have cheated like hell. Won a couple league championships and a couple rose bowls. We would have then had national recognition. So we get in a little trouble BFD. We blew it.

The NCAA would have come down on OSU like it did SMU. They would have made an exception to destroy OSU to "send a message."

MacVicar had no clue about the importance of sports but let's not go too far with this. Plenty of other schools had their MacVicars. The reality for OSU is the lack of TV numbers. Nobody is turning up their noses to OSU's athletics right now. Three out of the four Pac-12 teams the Big 12 took are pretty bad in football right now. Only Utah is a standout. Yeah, UA has men's hoops. Colorado has the hype. But they also have more eyes watching. |

Yep, don't no the numbers but my first Beaver sporting events were trips to Gil in the early 1980's because they were good.. The reason I stopped going to Gil with my friend and his dad, wasn't the play on the court, it was all the loud comments by the the dad: "Shoot the ball Miller!" "Shoot the damn ball Miller!" It was embarrassing for a grade school or middle school kid, unfamiliar with sporting events, so I stopped going. |

There have been many decisions over the years that have led to this moment.....to us being left out
The biggest one was Dee Andros telling Fred Milton to shave off that thing! That set into motion decades of OSU living in college football purgatory, when we should've been building on our "Gianr killers" momentum.
The second biggest might have been hiring GAG, and his subsequent complete meltdown.
Both events had very unfortunate timing.....The Andros/Milton thing being during Civil Rights movement.....even though the incident had nothing to do with race, it was used as such, and blew OSU out of the water with athletes of color.....it had irreversible negative effects.
GAG obviously duped our admin. He was an unmitigated disaster. The way he left was embarrassing for OSU, even though he thought he was doing us a favor.
Fast forward to now......we have a rising program.....one of the hottest young coaches in football, who happens to have been the QB when we were a win away from at least a share of the National Championship.......I'm not gonna get into the s%#t show that is Pac 12 leadership that led to the conference falling apart. We all know the story. It just sucks so much that we are on the cusp of our football program being a perennial contender......and this. It's like a cruel f%#*ing joke.

Pulling strings to get Oregon in the Pac-8 rather than letting them fend for themselves. Fred Milton. Letting Andros wither on the vine for seven years, when he was done as a head coach. Passing on Rich Brooks and Terry Donahue in favor of Fertig. Hiring Avezzano. Passing on Erickson to hire Kragthorpe. Destroying everything that Kragthorpe had built to hire Pettibone. A 1970s solution to a 1990s problem. Not reinvesting into football sufficiently, while football was good. Splitting up the combined Oregon State Board of Higher Education and Oregon University System. Forcing Langs out. Hiring GAG to replace Riley. Are we here if 10 of those 11 still happen? Nine? A bunch of little things added up to a major problem, and the poisoned fruits seem to have fully ripened today. |

Those are generic plates with a beaver sticker on it, big deal, you see all the duck fans with the green custom duck plate. When asked about it the DMV says, OSU just hasn't submitted one... SAD!!! |
