I really don’t understand why Stanford and Cal want to join. Cal makes sense for the money. It’ll be horrible for their fans, students and student athletes (the most important group)… not to mention continual talk of carbon footprint, yet Stanford with a “leading” environmental science program (that pledged drops in their footprint) is going to embrace a 4x to their pollution for what?

It's the ATLANTIC COAST Conference.....they'd have to rename it the ACC + those two smarty pants schools who failed geography, apparently.

Because even if Stanford DGAS about football, it wants a P5 platform for its women's sports programs and select men's Olympic sports programs like baseball and soccer, which are elite. Cal is the New York Giants, Stanford is the Brooklyn Dodgers. If you want the Dodgers, the marquee franchise, you have to hold your nose and take the Giants too. Adding two West Coast teams is the only way they can pretend it makes economic sense, even though of course it doesn't. You have to suspend common sense to understand conference realignment, which many university presidents and ADs have done.

Well, I thought one of the NC schools would bend. They aren't as angry as FSU or Clemson.
But then this...
From what we've read, the North Carolina schools vote together. It will be very interesting now to see if the other two change their votes as they seem more about the money than the academic/travel implications.
I guess we'll just have to add a few schools and then merge with the ACC as an East -West division based conference and go all in with Apple (I kid, I kid)

The P5 conferences always earn the bulk of the NCAA basketball, baseball, softball and soccer at-large selections.

Close, though, has a different meaning to each university.

“Are we chasing a dollar amount, or are we chasing success?” he said “I think there’s a difference there. If you are chasing a number, it takes you down a different path. If you are chasing success competitively in football and basketball and all of our sports, then I think every institution has an idea of what they need.”
Wonder if the twats over at the original 5 defectors can understand the nuance of that. Of course not because they blew up the PAC 12. The joy of this year bottle it and save it. PAC 12 is going the way of toys r Us and radio shack.
