The guy has a point..what do you think? It is arrogant to say the NBA, MLB are 'world champions' since they are largely USA based teams (sure a few in Canada).
US Soccer would NEVER say world champions by winning the US league.
Other countries play decent basketball and baseball...

I think it is hilarious... his content and delivery are not only great, but he trolled some of the biggest NBA players into responding. For the most part the NBA brethren are the most blind and secluded group of people in the world. While most are "too good" to play for the national teams in World competitions, yet they call themselves World Champs and spout off on every social issue as if their opinions actually matter. They are about their $$, period.
The best example of said arrogance and complete lack of reality... Aaron Gordon:
“Whatever... I’m smoking buddy in the 200m,” wrote Gordon.
Of course, Gordon always has this out... knowing the NBA "smoking" might not mean winning the race.

It's tradition, not arrogance. We invented the sports back when no other country was playing them. We can call our champs what ever we want. F them if they don't like it. Do we call the super bowl champs world champs? I don't know but I don't have a problem with that either.

The NBA player who said that the best players in the world play in the NBA and therefore the NBA title is "world champions" is right. The NBA is full of international talent.
I thought Lyles was just being funny but if not...who cares?

Trust me - the "Ugly American" is a real view by much of the world - and it is our arrogance and insolence that is a big part of it. We ooze entitled to the rest of the world. Granted, it isn't just because of the NBA or the NFL - but the sentiment is real.

I'm sure the Denver Nuggets would mop the floor with the Real Madrid Baloncesto, the defending EuroLeague Champions. And the Houston Astros would sweep both the Orix Buffaloes and Honkbalclub Allen Weerbaar.
There is only one competition in all sports that allows clubs/franchises compete for "World Champion", and that's the FIFA Club World Cup.

When the baseball "World Series" was begun in 1903, the US was the only nation that had a pro baseball league. It has been the World Series for 121 years. Once other nations began with pro baseball was it obligatory of the Americans to change the name of their championship? If you were to ask other countries which country dominates in baseball, none of them would argue which league is best. Why do you think many of the best Japanese and Korean players, and all of the best Latino players come to the States? Why did Travis Bazzana leave his native country?
A similar situation occurred to some degree with pro basketball, but I think that the term World Champs has not been as commonly used with basketball as it is with baseball.

The question I get asked by more than half the euros I visit with is "what in the heck is going on with all the shootings." Or at least some paraphrased version of that. No one (honest, zero) has ever said something like I wish it was easier for us to own firearms.

I'm overseas most days for work, and it's comical to see the reactions of most of my foreigner friends when I tell them that I enjoy shooting feral hogs from helicopters in my free time. The vast majority want to try it. The vast majority enjoy it when they do.

Hmmm. It seems that foreign views of America are as varied and complex as domestic views of America. Who would have thunk it?

A very common reaction by humans when they are not accustomed to something, if it is not part of their culture or heritage. But, they are not wrong in their observations. Funny how some people when making the same observation seem to think Elon Musk is involved, and we have autonomous firearms.

There is only one competition in all sports that allows clubs/franchises compete for "World Champion", and that's the FIFA Club World Cup. Actually, that’s not entirely true. There is the World Baseball Classic, for one, and if you look at other sports like tennis or track, there are numerous worldwide competitions. Also, the WBC has been held five times with Japan claiming the title three times. Maybe you want to rethink your assumption that the cheating Astros would beat the Buffaloes.
