On my way to coffee, the blurb on sports radio is that Apple and it's unlimited pockets is tired of "messing around". They have hired several outside consultants to evaluate buying ESPN from Disney/Hearst. I believe they at least want the 80% Disney controls.
Basically it was saying that the Pac12 was their ground floor and it is "when not if" it will happen. It was supposedly why linear programing for the PAc12 Apple deal was open to discussion at a later time. There was never a denial from Apple that linear sales of games would not happen. It was just not open for discussion for this initial contract.
I'm sure if it was on air, there are numerous hacks and blurbs online by now. I just don't want to research, link, or speculate on if, when, what will happen. But, the discussion made me think even less of the Pac12's side of the Apple negotiations. Especially those supposedly highly intelligent, forward thinking, creative school Presidents and their support staff!? And as mentioned by several here... some future regrets by some schools.
Hopefully this is what is delaying Apple from being involved in a Pac12 rebuild and they are still interested.

I hear Disney wants a partner but not to sell. I doubt apple wants those huge contracts ESPN is on the hook for but who knows. ESPN will be challenged financially to move to an alacarte cable and streaming model. They want to do that by 2025. I just guess apple will wait to see how ESPN manages the transition to streaming and just pick off a few contracts, like they did soccer, when they see an opening.

So speculation is that Apple will either acquire ESPN, or at least partner with Disney to have ESPN on Apple TV.
The more I read about what transpired to get things where they currently lie, the more I think there's a bigger design at play here. I think this re-alignment continues until there's a hand picked group of schools that will constitute "tier 1". It will be the blue bloods, and teams with national appeal such (barf) hole. They will be grouped by region......I think the number I've seen is somewhere around 30 schools....they will likely have their own championship.....we will be in the 2nd tier with the Tulane's, and Boise's of the world.
I think the decisions made to blow up the conference were pre-determined. USC knew they were going to leave for the B1G....thats why they blocked adding the Big12.......hole, and u dub were giving lip service to the rest of the remaining conference, but were already gone..just waiting for the invite...the 50 mill counter to ESPN was a tactic to tank the offer completely.. I don't buy that all these back room meetings led to the Pac 12 making the WRONG moves......none of these deals were going to happen.....the Pac was toast years ago.....partly due to geography/timezone, and how it affects eye balls on tv sets, and partly due to poor leadership. Larry Scott was to the Pac what Ando pants was to OSU.
I wonder how the big boys will cast away their unwanted schools?.....at least for football.
