Looking for some help understanding this topic.
CNN todays writes that Bronny James "NIL valuations at 6.2 million $."
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean he has already collected 6.2 M and has it in his pocket - so to speak. Does it mean he has future possibilities to earn this money - that is, it's potential money more than actual money?
Finally, in everyday language, how is this valuation determined?
Appreciate any help. I know some of you out there are knowledgeable on this topic....But it's Albanian to me. GO BEAVS!!

People are using On3 valuations and regarding them as gospel.
These are calculated numbers, and their accuracy has been dubious at best so far. It'll possibly improve over time.
From On3 - "While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future."

As stated above, it's basically click bait type info. They are trying to say how much a NIL deal with this player is worth to a company/companies. NIL in and itself is a terrible idea as it is now with no real rules or enforcement. But, the rumor mills and exaggeration of NIL amounts is just as bad. Hopefully 99% of the players realize this and are better informed.

So, back to Bronny James. The headline from CNN really is nothing more than a guesstimate of what B. James could possibly earn in the future from his NIL?
Basically, I'm trying to figure out how much these athletes are actually receiving into their bank accounts as a result of NIL. Is it possible, for example, that Bronny James has already received say 2.5M?
If these questions sound like I am poorly informed, it is because I am.
Bringing it closer to home: when Omar Speights (sp) left OSU for LSU was it assumed that he probably received $50,000 (or so) for switching schools from some kind of NIL arrangement?
The term "pay for play" is used in these top-talent transfers, and I'm just trying to make sense of it.....
Obviously, I have much more to learn on this topic..... GO BEAVS!!

The headline from CNN is nothing, unless they have his tax returns or something or a contract. And they don't. Nothing, absolutely nothing. They are just trying to trick you into clicking on the article based on the headline, because that is what "news" has devolved into. Anything is possible, and your guess is probably more accurate than CNN's. I could make up a number and say that it is the number, and it will probably be more accurate than CNN's.
