I would love to respond to his letter to the editor, but don't want my name and location posted in the O Some facts: It's not just about football, it's all sports UO has had 'national success? In what? OSU has three national championships in recent years. UO may have played in some 'Natty's' but they LOST.Nice exposure! UO and UW did not show up for the vote on the Apple media deal, thus dooming any chance of getting it done, so actually UO was in part responsible Some speculation UO/UW were the schools that wanted $50M deal from ESPN? Until their president/AD deny it, I say it happened. Playing in the "nattys" most likely was a big positive for Oregon overall despite the losses. The exposure was huge, no matter what we want to think. TCU got destroyed by Georgia in the most recent title game and was already getting more student applications during the run to the game and had gained more than $2 billion in earned media value (according to TCU), which obviously went up with the title game appearance. Fort Worth's hotel industry's profits were up 35 percent through the season as well. So the run to the title game alone can have a huge impact on a school. Maybe that will be OSU this season... |
