MARTIN SERRANO C 6-3, 204 B-L/T-R POCATELLO, ID. HS
Serrano becomes the 17th commit in the class of 2024 and with West Linn's Ryan Vandenbrink, becomes the second catcher in the class. He also becomes the second Idaho commitment in the class joining RHP Dax Whitney from Blackfoot, ID.
Serrano is a big framed catcher at 6'3 1/2" and a sturdy 205 as an 18 year old. He is a three year varsity starter for Coach Vinnie Benevidez, having earned the position as a freshman. As a Junior in 2023, he earned IHSAA first team All-State honors. He has participated in the Idaho State All Star games and was a member of the Royals Area Code team. He has played summer baseball with the Runnin Rebs, Pocatello's highly successful American Legion team.
He hits from the left side and peppers the entire field with blistering line drives. There is some power potential. He has also played some first base. His metrics are favorable.

In '23, PHS was 20-2 and Great Basin League Champs. They won the Idaho state class 4A title by defeating Preston 9-2, Wood River 8-1, Bishop Kelley 9-8 (8), and Nampa-Skyview 14-4. Their 2 losses were out of state - to Reno-Bishop Manogue 5-4, and Lakewood, CO. - Green Mountain HS.9-7.
SOPHOMORE YEAR-2022: 22 gms, 76PA, 20-59 and .339 BA, 12R, 24 RBI, 6 DBL, 11BB, 4 HBP, 8K. ROE 4, 1 SB, Slash = .339/ .461/ .440 with 901 OPS. Fielding % was .986. The Thunder finished the season with a 16-8 record and a co-championship in their league. In the IHSAA playoffs, they defeated Preston 4-3, then lost to Sandpoint 11-2.
FRESHMAN YEAR 2021: 23 GMS. 79 PA, 19-71 for .268 BA, 7R, 16 RBI, 2 DBL, 2 BB, 3 HBP, 9 K, 5 ROE. Slash = .268/ .308/ .295 803 OPS. Fldg % was .994 PHS finished the season at 15-13 and in the state playoffs, beat Nampa-Columbia 5-3, lost to Nampa-Ridgeview 7-5.
Martin is scholar. He has a 4.10 weighted GPA and a scored 28 on the ACT.
