A couple impressive stats for the incoming distance runners is the number of sub 4:30 1500m (2 incoming freshmen and 3 transfers). A handful of others are below 4:40. There are/were 5 on the current roster that ran sub 4:30: Grace, Kaylee, Olivia Johnson, Mari Friedman, and Meagan Lowe - four of them appear to have used up eligibility, and Meagan hasn't competed for about 2 years. Not sure what happened to Olivia last season - before her transfer to OSU she won the MWC 1500m at 4:19 and never even approached 4:50 last season. Mari Friedman may have redshirted last year to have one more year (this would be really nice), but I think she graduated.
The new shot-put transfer is amazing - going to be very competitive having her, Jade W in Discus, and a couple pretty good Javelin athletes for the throwing events.

Yes, the two high schoolers in the 4:25 neighborhood are interesting. I don't know anything about them but high school talent like that has not arrived in Corvallis since Joni Huntley (in a different event).

I think so - both are listed on the 2023 Roster. Barring injuries, it could be one of the best XC teams ever. Coach Q mentioned that Kaylee's last race was her final for the OSU T&F team (9:24 3000SC). Not sure about Grace's T&F eligibility. It used to be that our records were just hopeful milestones on the road to improvement. There are getting to be some really impressive marks in a few events these last few years. |
