My inside source at Nike tells me the fighting Puddles down the road are wearing orange socks vs Colorado this weekend, supposedly to resemble the legs of their mascot. Yeah, right. They jumped the shark about three years ago, and just keeping doing idiotic things for publicity. Wearing OSU's school color combined with no invite to the bball tournament, it's been a bad week for Nike relations. Maybe it's time for OSU to pay a visit to the new Portland office of Under Armour. I can't get mad at this. I think that's one of their better jersey combos.
We're under contract with Nike until 2019. Our university has a pretty good relationship with Nike, I see no reason to blow that up simply because they also happen to have a better relationship with UO. If we can get a better deal from UA or Adidas, then fine. But if it comes with a new logo, count me out. Jerseys can change all they want, but I like the current Beaver, and wouldn't want to have to start all over trying to get people to recognize our logo/brand.

I don't mean to be combative and may not sound reasonable but I hate the fact we're wearing Schnike garb. I've refused to buy their products for over 30 years and any association with them, in my opinion, taints us. Their business model, while successful, relies on taking advantage of the under privileged, using the u of HO as a marketing platform and personal play toy, and generally behaving like pompous aholes.
I suspect the monetary difference could be significant but I've always felt we offer a unique opportunity for a competitor to shove us down their throats in their own backyard. I would jump for joy if we dumped them and went with UA or Adidas. I would hope either of those two wouldn't give us hideous uniform combos (aka the "Bra" jerseys) or commission new mascot renditions that remind most people of a gopher.

Neither Adidas or UA would provide as lucrative a relationship, and as long as that's the case, we are a Nike school and SHOULD be a Nike school.

Nebraska won't be the only L on their schedule this year. I know they have a zillion combos, so they will be well prepared to change their uniforms after every loss. Got to keep those recruits distracted so they don'the notice their declining program.

As much as lament the university of zero down the road, we need not forget that Phil Knight is still a donor to Beaver Nation plus the lucrative contract with Nike. Besides if we received the amount of funding/support that u of 0 received from Knight/Nike would we hate ourselves as much as we hate u of 0?

Besides if we received the amount of funding/support that u of 0 received from Knight/Nike would we hate ourselves as much as we hate u of 0? Everyone has big donors........there are some schools that have donors as well to do as Phil......T.Boone Pickens, etc. Even Maryland has the Under Armour founder. Of course the big whales have the right to donate as much as they want to their universities. What irritates the fan base is the u of zero gets the benefit of having the world's pre-imminent sports apparel company as their marketing arm, which is an advantage no other school (even under the Nike umbrella) gets. Also it's the rich kid mentality/entitled/"born on third base but act like you hit a triple" mentality their fan base has. OSU has their share of generous donors. Raising 42 million in a span of a few years is not small feat, neither is raising over a billion dollars on the Academic side. The cultures of the two schools are very different, I often wonder what the fan base would be like if OSU did have a billionaire benefactor arrive on the scene. Given the growth of the school, the research and innovation our students and grads are involved in, you never know what could happen in the next few years; we could have the next Bill Gates or Al Reser residing in Weatherford Hall as we speak.
