So this is the first quote I've found from a reporter on the whole $420 million payout thing: John Canzano said "The revenue theoretically is supposed to be evenly split among all 12 members. The 2/4 remaining members can take "costs and damages" vs. that money but won't get it all. Also, unclear with Stanford/Cal right now. Could just dissolve if they go." IF Canzano is right, then the Beavers probably would get more than 1/12 of the cut, not half of the $420 million pot.

Until August of 24 they are still just P12 members.

About anything? Serious question!

And Canzano has not been my go-to source of information throughout all of this. I barely pay attention to him. I try to seek out reporting that has sources outside the Pac-12. No guarantees of accuracy no matter where you look, though.

I believe his info/sources more than any media source that $400-420 million is future payouts earned by all 12 members. The Pac12 never had a exit fee, but the future payouts can be decreased to each member who leaves the conference for "damages and expenses" (as stated above). Whatever the new TV contract is can be compared to what was in effect and to the $25 mil + incentives from Apple. Damages to each remaining school would be the difference in that amount each year over the life of the new contract. Expenses could include everything from cost of merging... Comcast $ money owed by each school, legal, relocation, exit fees, contract buyouts, etc. In their estimate about 35-50% of the money would be utilized for compensatory damages and fees depending on how many Pac4 schools remain under the banner. The same process would take place if the Pac12 dissolves... expenses and then a full 12 way split. However, until August 1, 2024 all 12 schools have a voice in how future earnings are handled and most likely their will be a significant move to implement new SOP/bylaws to ensure all 12 get their share. They believe it is one of the factors involved in several schools accepting less money upfront than was possible via the initial Apple proposal. The 1.7 million additional subscribers was a bare minimum Apple execs expected over the (9) teams that remained. They were more in line with AD Barnes that it would be well within reason to expect 3-5 million new subscribers. Incentives not only included more $$ for more subscribers, but options for extension of the contract at rates that that would be commensurate of other media deals that will be renewed. Apple wanted the President's to see this like a ground floor investment opportunity that would only grow and enhance their schools. Their feeling... some Presidents only attended as a token gesture. They had closed their minds to all avenues except for tradition media models, and wanted assurance that the Apple deal would allow selling key games. It is also thought that several were actually still answering to their boards for the refusal of a lucrative ESPN deal about 1 year ago. Take it or leave it... but, a lot of that conversation made a great deal of sense sitting on the outside looking back on what has happened. I see Oregon as a completely different "animal" in all this. Phil is going to donate whatever it takes to make up any media shortfall. Oregon took a ridiculously low amount (the extra travel money is supposedly a false narrative?!) because Phil is there. Phil oks this because that media deal give Nike a huge footprint in one of the most powerful football conferences. Of course he and his Nike cohorts want Oregon to have success, but more importantly want Nike to have success. UW??? I have no idea what is going on? I've heard they have a huge debt issue and many of their large donor base is older and giving huge amounts has decreased, while the younger fan base is not in the same mode. DeBoer better be real successful for the next decade!

"Costs and damages" should be considerable, seeing as how we will lose about $20-25m a year in rights fees.

Yeah, considerably less that $420 million. But yes, I get your point. There will be some sort of decent payout.

There will be some sort of decent payout. a 20-25 million dollar loss over 7 years (the length of the B1G contract that Oregon fled to) four the four remaining schools is... 560-700 million dollars. That is before we factor in loss of upside income (Apple deal could have gone as high as 50 million per school), loss of merch and ticket sales, loss of rivalries, etc. Any lawyer worth his Salt will be STARTING at a lawsuit for a Billion dollars for the 4 remaining teams. Name everybody, all the defecting teams, all the other conferences (Pac-12 included), the NCAA, Fox, ESPNS, CBS, Presidents and ADs and commissioners by name, etc.

Correct, the media revenue split still earned in 23-24 is shared as it has been until any of the departing schools are officially in the other conferences. After that is when the question of the revenue split engages.
