Chip might be right. The college administrator canzano quotes might be right. The problem is we can't wait 5 to 10 years for the migration. Our athletic department can't survive the money loss.

I like Kelly's idea except for the 64/64 split. Why not have 128, with rankings based on how well the teams play that determines who gets into playoffs/bowl games?
Question: how would TV money be negotiated? By individual schools per individual game? Would individual teams have their own separate TV contracts for the season, like Notre Dame has currently? With the NCAA?

The only way Chip's idea works is if the NCAA controlled all the media rights and revenues, and distributed the money equally to the various conferences. Had that been the case all along, NCAA football wouldn't be destroying conferences and traditional rivalries right now.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, however, wouldn't you be terrified if somebody walked up to your Athletic Department and said, "I'm from the NCAA, and I'm here to help."
