Oregon State has a strong representation in the Area Code games beginning in southern California this week. Several Beaver recruits have stood out early in the games. If my count is correct, we have eight players participating in the games. Finn Edwards, Adam Haight, Xavier Neyens, Mason Pike and Noah Sorenson are playing with the Royals, Zach Kmatz is with the Reds, Jake McKowen and Conner Barth are in the Athletics lineup. Really interesting - Pike and Neyens are class of '25, the games are for the class of '24 prospects.
Conner Barth had a good opening game defensively and had a pair of hits including a run scoring triple off the left field wall that decided the game for the Athletics in their 2-1 win over the Brewers. Jake McKowen retired 6 straight in his two innings of work. McKowen's wire framed glasses remind people of the intimidating Ryne Duren back in the day.
Mason Pike scored the winning run for the Royals in their 5-4 victory over the Reds. He scored on a walk-off single from the "X-Man", Xavier Neyens. "X" had ripped a 2-run double earlier, had 4 RBIs and was named "Player of the Game".
