From Dennis Dodd via Kevin Borba:
"Dodd explained that (San Diego State's) idea consisted of getting the best schools from the Mountain West and American conferences to merge with California, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State. Something that fell apart on Monday after a meeting with all of the Mountain West presidents showing loyalty to their conference."
Also seeing rumors that there will be a vote to change the P5 to P4 as soon as a week from now.

Loyalty? Isn't that what the Pac 12 did? How'd that work out?

I'm not a lawyer and I've never played one on TV but if powers that be vote 4 P5 schools out because the TV dudes don't like them, it smells like a lawsuit to me.

All of the schools were free to leave after this season when the contract was up.

There's no way to make the Pac remnants, the AAC and Mountain west a P5 conference. What could result in a lawsuit is when s%#t comes out how much Fox pushed USCLA to go Big 10 and if ESPN was doing the same meddling to get Utah and company into the Big 12. But we're not dead yet. I believe we're going to be in the Big 12.

We all know what this is leading to. ACC is breaking up. The Big 12 lost their "big guns." Skip all the bulls%#t and just name the Big Ten and the SEC the king and queen. (They can alternate being queen, or they can both be kings.) And we know that there are probably 6-12 teams in those two conferences that don't really belong, so kick them out. Doing this piecemeal is crap. Just do it in one fell swoop.

Unless there's updated information, this is just a rumor right now anyway. But the rumor part probably has more to do with the vote possibly happening in a week than whether or not it will actually happen.

But I think they've seen and heard a lot of pushback this week. I know they want to make the most money they can, but I don't think anybody wants a dime store NFL. Hopefully we get a good landing spot. I think we will. We have a lot to offer.

They want to move to a two conference system. God only knows why.

Speaking of the NFL, how are they happy with this? The way that the system is set up now means that lots of players are getting developed across the nation. But the more that this gets consolidated into a more centralized power conference approach, the fewer opportunities kids at other schools will have to play higher caliber teams, thereby limiting their development. Teams like Purdue that had to face Ohio State once and maybe Michigan too, now may also have to face Oregon and USC. While teams like Oregon State, which faced UW, USC, and Oregon, now have to face........weaker teams, possibly. NFL needs players. NFL needs players from all over the country, not just the SEC and B1G.

They're getting a ton of free development, it could absolutely hurt them to have fewer and fewer options for player development at the highest levels. And college has long been an innovation incubator for the NFL. I wonder if there's an NBA G League equivalent coming in the future?
