Trying to asess how going to the AAC is better than merging with the Mtn. West under a modified Pac brand?

Yeah, we could renew our heated rivalry with Temple. And go broke with travel to exotic places like East Carolina, Old Dominion, James Madison, Charlotte ... NRW. Stay west, with the Mountain West in the new MountPac Conference.

I guess the ACC is better than trying to rebuild the Pac or going MWC. With all 4 teams, SOME of the travel is reduced. Football travel is minimal with 4 West Coast teams, and a minimual number of games to play...Sports with lots more games (hoops, baseball) will require lots of travel...the down side of an east coast conference..et EDIT -but yeah if we can merge with MWC and keep P12 status, that is the way to go....assuming we can get a media deal...a BIG assumption

It's the AAC... with their sparkling new media deal of $1 billion thru the '31-32 year, 83.3 "ish" million a year split 12 ways... $6.84 "ish" mil per team. What happens to a 14 or 16 way split?

If the proposals I've seen come to pass I think it may not be too bad of an idea. Would get OSU into TV markets and recruiting areas in Texas and in the south and east. Let's face it, its all about TV money now days and a merge like this would bring in more money than going to the MWC. Just my 2 cents.

Stanford and Cal would have no interest in the AAC and I doubt WSU and OSU would either. Travel expense would be brutal for starters.

No one is thinking about the athletes in all of this. Especially for the non revenue sports. Travel to the midwest is bad enough let alone heading to the eastern seaboard. I say rebuild the PAC and get it done!
Scott Barnes said last week:
......“The great history and tradition of this conference has been severely damaged,” Barnes told The Oregonian’s Nick Daschel. “The best interest of the student athlete hasn’t been served. Traveling to the Eastern seaboard multiple times a year is not in the best interest of student-athletes...."

Find a decent media deal, yes even Apple Stream only..and merge with the MWC. Set the standard for 'doing right by the athletes, families of the athletes and coaches and the fans' Keep the student in student athlete, respect their other time issues and don't have them spending many more hours traveling.

I hate the idea of joining the AAC. Not enough money to justify that kind of travel.
That being said, if Oregon State and Washington State could add their best 6 teams to our conference for 2024 with the goal of adding Mountain West schools the year after, I could get behind that.
For me, it would have to work for us to basically add all of the Mountain West schools though. If that conference is broken up, those teams have no place to go. The AAC teams that get left out would still have Conference USA and the Sun Belt as fall back options (Not that they'd be happy about that).
At this point, as reality has started to set in, I'm fine with competing with the teams in the Mountain West. The only part that's really difficult for me is that the current momentum of the football team would be gone. If this would have happened while Anderpants was here, I wouldn't be that upset about falling into the Mountain West.
I really hope that Jonathan Smith just loves Corvallis so much that he's willing to stick it out even after a probable pay cut (I'm obviously dreaming hear). If they could retain Smith, I'd feel ok with competing in the MWC even though there would be a mass exodus from the current roster.

Yeah thats why we need to merge with the MWC (all of it) but under the name image likeness of the Pac 12. Its a bump up for them, and we don't end up being a-holes like the dirty 8 are. Everybody has a home and with any luck a decent media deal that allows us to keep sports/coaches/players like we have now...

The Big-12 deal could push $50,000,000 per team at some point and you're understating the distance factor. UCF/Cinci/WVU are the only teams east of Texas. It's pointless, regardless, they don't want us.
