With that kind of colossal, epic meltdown of the organization he leads, that would get any CEO fired in a major corporation.
He has been rather quiet too in all of this sh*t.

Seems as if his position is ceremonial at this point. Each school is now acting as their own commissioner

I don't know if Kilavkoff can be entirely blamed for the Pac's demise. There were a lot of factors at play, including a bunch of presidents who seemed not to have a grasp on reality. The Pac 12 teams, beyond USC and, to a lesser extent, Oregon, were nowhere near the viewership of the other Power 5 conferences and should never have expected a deal similar equaling the other conferences. So for me, I am still withholding judgment on Kliavkoff.
But the Pac 12 still needs a commissioner looking out for the interests of the four remaining members. Whether it includes Stanford and Cal or just OSU and WSU (and in some ways, I hope it's just the latter), I am hoping that Kliavkoff is talking to the MWC about a merger and to Apple about getting a deal for the newly formed MountainPacific Conference similar to the one he got for the Pac 12(9). If not a full merger from the MWC, then take enough of the top teams that they will vote to dissolve the conferece.
I know. That's rotten. But we're all fighting for survival here and the market is going to determine what is going to happen in the end. We need a litlle ruthlessness.
In the end, I am hoping for a smooth transition to a western conference that extends no further east than the mountain zone. I want the best of the west, but if we had to take the entire MWC, that's fine, too.
I know others feel differently.

The one thing to note is Kliavkoff has ultimate "accountability" for the conference as its top leader. The conference collapsed under his accountable watch. How does he retain any followership, trust and confidence from those he leads or represents after that? That is a case where he should be removed as trust in him to salvage the situation is very low.

I know most think of George or Larry as the conference leader. But, essentially he is not. Both are/were high paid (over paid) administrative assistants that does the overall conference athletic issues that the university Presidents and ADs do not have time for. George is basically paid 300k/school to oversee conference athletics. However, George can make no major decisions or changes on his own. He is a pawn of the (12), for now, university Presidents. As far as media deals he negotiated, he had no real leverage, he presented... the rest is all on each President.

There's plenty of blame to go around. Kliavkoff probably should share some of it but I think he was largely the guy left trying to fix a crumbling dam with some spackle.

This is not a great time to be trying to find and hire a new commissioner, that's the last added complexity this situation needs. He may be a bad commish, this may be all his fault, we don't and probably will never know, but at least for now he has to stay in place until the Pac is fully gone or back on stable (but probably still shaky) legs. Hopefully he still has his apple contacts and can get a deal for whatever PacOfMountWest99 Conference is formed from the ashes. Lets not forget that this is egg on Apples face as well. They got rejected (dissed) by Oregon and Washington as well. Even though there deal had potential upside higher than the Big12 deal. If I was Apple I would be pissed at Oregon too, maybe we can leverage that in a "Lets make them regret they moved on" deal with apple Apple WANT to be in on sports and college football. We just have to get a conference together and tweak the details and I am betting apple is still ready and raring to go. Add 4-6 schools, cut the minimum guaranteed per school to 15 or 20 million, keep the high upside tied to subscribers, and lets get this thing done. And then lets subscribe the hell out of it and leave the tojams and sucks to come groveling back after getting ther a$$es kicked in the B1G for a while and getting less money for it too boot If I was writing this as a screen play, that is what would happen. After all is said and done, Apple, the Pac-4, and the new 12PacOfMountianDew Conference members emerge with oddles of streaming money, an easier path to the playoff, less travel, etc. and the PacOfDefectorsPansyA$$Wipes are left with mediocre records, jet lagged athletes and lower revenues anyways Oh if only I was God and could direct all of life

Kliavkoff was the pawn of several bad actors with self serving interests, plain and simple. What has happened is not his fault, but he was there in title.
I expect that he's still trying to find a way to keep the conference going, unless he's satisfied with getting a paycheck until next summer and then just fade into oblivion.
