UCLA coach Chip Kelly “I’d be for, we’re all in the same division. Put 60 of us in the same division, do it like the NFL where there’s NFC West, NFC North, NFC South, it’s the same thing and then we all get together. I think we should all be — there should be one conference ... in all of college football.
Then just break it up like they do in the professional ranks, based on geography. That makes the most sense. There’s your travel question, there’s all those other questions. But no one asked me.”

What I heard from a former ESPN guy doing talk radio the other night was that the NCAA was sued to break up its monopoly on the broadcasting of games. Back then, (I think it was the 80s), you only saw the same old teams on the tube. Once the monopoly was broken, we got more broadcast options, but we see what that did. And the incessant greed. The NCAA seems to have very little control over its entity.

The problem is that college football has always been a regional sport with each conference being their own fiefdom competing with other conferences. A conference like the SEC is far too parochial to share its power with anyone else.

Oklahoma and Georgia successfully sued the NCAA to break up NCAA's monopoly on broadcasting games. 7-2 decision. The five liberal justices and two of the four conservative justices ruled that the NCAA violated the Sherman Antitrust Act.
