If we drop to the MWC there is going to be a mass exodus of players in all sports, coaches too. Playing the slugeaters will not be pretty. . Coaches maybe. Players will have to prove they are worth NIL. Not sure how much this really changes things for players in general. To me the mega conferences are actually less desirable unless you are going to a top tier powerhouse. Mid tier and bottom tier are just punching bags. I'd rather play for a good team in a lower league than a s%#t tier team in a mega league. SEC, 12 and 10 will likely end up with 20 teams. The top 60 teams in the country will not be in those 3 conferences but the top 8-10 probably will be.

In the bigger sports, NIL will have a lot to do with retaining those who are already here. Obviously, this year's seniors aren't going anywhere, and their eligibility runs out anyway. 2024 seniors? Leave everything you've built over 3 years just to (maybe) hook up with a school that may or may not be in the top half (9th) in a mega conference and earn a trip to the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl? In other sports where we have top tier programs that don't get much media coverage anywhere (gymnastics, wrestling), what would be the big advantage to leaving here? Jade Carey's father just became a coach here; the only place she's going is to the Olympics. The main reason I could see our current athletes leaving in swarms is if all of you guys actually do what you're posting so much - stop going to games, stop buying season tickets to individual sports, stop supporting our athletes. You gonna throw away your tee shirts too? Do all that, and your doom and gloom becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. When you all calm down some and take a breath, remember this: Oregon State has done absolutely nothing to destroy the PAC 12 conference. The coaches, the staff, the athletes - they've done nothing to incur anybody's wrath; they have had absolutely zero to do with creating this debacle. Last week, this week, next week - they're all doing precisely what they have done in years past. So should you. They all have to be wondering and talking about the situation, and what they're going to experience this year has to be high on the list. If we want them back in 2024,I would suggest that we keep attendance up at all events, that we cheer for our guys like never before - and that we rain down boos on every team from a traitor school even louder than we cheer for our guys. Go Beavs !

I've seen more than one person setting up the cross border rivalry between uw and uo. I have yet to see any reference of wsu or the Beavers. There is talk of the 4 corners schools sticking together in their move. Supposedly cal will be moving with stanford to keep their rivalry intact. I can't help but wonder how many athletes will transfer out to play for a power 4 (not a typo) school. It is hard enough to get the best players to become Beavers when we are in a p-5 conference. Where are they all going to go? Where are Stanford and Cal slated to end up? I see lots of talk about Zona, but not Utah (ASU seems fluid). As I was saying.... 4 corner schools stick together to the big 12. The only 2 left are the bay area schools. Cal has to be pushing for a move given their athletic programs money issues. I don't see Stanford sticking around to become a mid major school. Rumor is they will go to the big 10.

Our options are very, very limited. Barnes needs to start wheeling and dealing and taking a discount on distribution just to get some affiliation.

I still think stanford and cal stick together and they end up in the big10. Just a guess. OSU and wsu don't appear to be in the conversation at either big10 or big12. Acc and sec make no sense at all. I hate to say it but if everything reported happens we will end up in a mid major together.

... Oregon State has done absolutely nothing to destroy the PAC 12 conference. The coaches, the staff, the athletes - they've done nothing to incur anybody's wrath; they have had absolutely zero to do with creating this debacle. Last week, this week, next week - they're all doing precisely what they have done in years past. So should you. It feels like OSU and WSU have been given the equivalent of the NCAA "death penalty" for doing nothing more than being good teams in small markets. In fact, it could be worse than any death penalty ever handed out. The teams that got those were able to recover after they served the penalty. It seems to me that the NCAA was neutered by the powerful schools that were tired of being punished for actually violating rules. With the NCAA on the sideline, there were no adults left in the room and the kids (the athletic programs of the biggest schools) started doing anything they wanted. Actually, in my darkest moments today, I ranted that it all started with the fans wanting every game on TV. Fans would cry when any game was not televised. So, the schools found a way (conference networks and other deals) to get every game televised (which led to all our night games). Suddenly, EVERY school in EVERY conference became dependent on the additional money coming in from the televised games. With every school making 10's of millions, there was even more pressure to at least let the athletes make a little money from all the exposure too. Thus NIL. NIL made it so that every school that wanted to compete HAD to have more money from bigger TV contracts. Schools started changing conferences in order to chase the money they needed to get the athletes to stay/become elite. All tradition goes out the window and OSU and WSU end up with worse than a death penalty while doing absolutely nothing wrong. Things look very, very, very bleak to me right now. I probably shouldn't be posting. But I can hardly believe what is happening. I don't know if the transfer portal is always open, but some of our quality young athletes in all sports could transfer sooner rather than later, if there is any additional sign that OSU will not be in a "P5" conference. We could lose coaches who want to coach in a major conference. I'm not going to root for any other University. I'm going to keep going to the games. But I'm afraid that OSU athletics are about to tumble. I wish I could see some hope. I wish I could see some positive in it all. Right now, this feels like the worst loss ever in the history of college sports.

I just thought about what I said in that last line: "...this feels like the worst loss ever in the history of college sports". No, Mike, no. Get some perspective. The worst loss ever in the history of college sports was the November 1970 plane crash that claimed the lives of all 75 crew, athletes, coaches, family, and fans on board. That gives some perspective. We will survive this.
