Comments from three college athletics experts: Bruce Feldman, Nicole Auerbauch, and Stewart Mandel
What about Oregon State and Washington State?
Feldman: My gut is they’re in a bad spot. I don’t see how the Big 12 would further expand to bring them in. I don’t know exactly if it makes financial sense for them to keep gobbling up everybody who’s out there.
Mandel: My answer to the Beavs/Cougs thing is: I think they would end up in the Mountain West. That might not seem fair, but nothing about this stuff is ever fair. …
Wouldn’t it be something if we went from San Diego State having to beg its way back to the Mountain West after not getting the Pac-12 invite as soon as they thought to actually now you don’t have to go anywhere San Diego State because the Pac-12’s coming to you? Unfortunately, those two schools in particular, are small, small markets, remote, not big national fan bases necessarily.
If Arizona, Arizona State and Utah all decided today, we all want to go to the Big 12, can Brett Yormark do that? Or as we’ve been told recently, his TV partners want to stop at 14. They agreed to do the pro-rata for the Power 5 schools, that doesn’t mean they want to have to pay for three more of those. So there would be no room left for those other two.
What a 13 team MWC might look like:
NORTH DIVISION Oregon State Washington State San Jose State Fresno State Nevada Boise State (No baseball)
SOUTHERN DIVISION San Diego State Air Force Academy UNLV New Mexico Colorado State (No baseball) Utah State (No baseball) Wyoming (No baseball)

I think I might go Independent before Mountain West. My guess is we could still get games with everyone we currently play if we wanted to. No matter who goes to what conference, they are still going to need each other to schedule all sports teams in games. Has to be part of the strategy to limit the travel. If not, this whole thing will flame out quick and we will be right back where we started.

Stanford is the one candidate to be independent should the PAC collapse. Their situation is in many aspects, similar to Notre Dame's.

Stanford is the one candidate to be independent should the PAC collapse. Their situation is in many aspects, similar to Notre Dame's. Except that Notre Dame is not an independent. It's a full member of the ACC in everything except football. It could not survive without a conference for its Olympic sports; the ACC stupidly did not play hardball and it let them in without football, the only program ND has that has any real value.

Following the USC/UCLA defection to the B1G, the league said they were done for now with expansion. It's no secret that the B1G has long coveted Irish membership in their conference. Fundamentally the message was, "we are done until we can secure Notre Dame as a member of the B1G" Now with the Buffalos going over the side and the Apple streaming offer, the fragility of the PAC has changed their mind. Preliminary talks with Oregon and Washington are reportedly underway with Stanford and Cal mentioned as additional targets. With USC/UCLA already in the fold, why allow the Big12 or SEC gain entry to the western markets.
The original B1G member schools might have to approve and accept diluted revenue since the media partners are supposedly on record as saying they have no interest in increasing the dollar size of their agreements. If the conference were to add the four PAC schools, they will have increased their membership by 43%. Diluted revenue per school might be objectionable to the initial 14 member schools or the new western additions might be asked to accept a partial share of the revenue for a few years.

NORTH OSU WSU Wyoming Utah St Boise State Colorado State Air Force SOUTH Fresno State San Jose State Nevada UNLV San Diego State New Mexico Hawaii Baseball by division doesn't matter as you'll play all (7) other baseball schools (could go home/away 2-game series?). And, have plenty of games to play a decent NC schedule. *added Hawai'i

You all are forgetting Hawaii, an affiliate MWC member for football.
As I said on another thread, the B10 supposedly is getting a lot of pushback from SC and UCLA about taking Pac-10 teams. They were promised West Coast exclusivity.

They were promised West Coast exclusivity. they don't have voting rights though, at least from what I have gathered. So, maybe doesn't matter what they want. It seems like if ASU and Utah stay, Big 10 won't take oregon and Washington to push the knife in. Then, maybe reload with blackjack and hookers. Assuming Stanford accepts those things.

They will find a place for Hawaii, if not, the program is dead.

Curious about what the 13 team MWC would have looked like following the 2023 season?
Oregon State 41-20 Washington State 29-23 San Jose State 31-27 Fresno State 30-27 New Mexico 26-25 Air Force 28-31 San Diego State 24-29 UNLV 21-30 Nevada 20-33

The Apple agreement could be pretty intriguing depending on how things are structured. I would rather have big tech as my business partner than Disney or any other traditional media group as we look to the future.

Apple has some devout PAC loyalists - their executive suite is crawling with Stanford alums. Steve Job's wife and son are also grads. If anyone would make an all out effort to make it work, it might be Apple.
