Apple knew the big 12 number, they knew if their number was not within a few million then teams were going to bolt the pac. They had to know once the bolting started it would not end well and Apple would get no games to broadcast\stream because there would be no league. WTF were they thinking? Why waste all that money bidding a project that you know you won’t get?
And George, George is going to lose his job and be unhirable.
Just a disaster.

They were thinking that they didn't want to take on a loss, but that they had to find a way to make the number more palatable. George probably said "but we'll beat them in TV numbers, our fans are great" and so apple put that to the test. Give them the possibility that they'll beat the number if their fans respond. If they don't think their fans will respond, then no point in backing the league.
I still can't believe the PAC couldn't get apple to give two games a week, one to after dark and one to cw, if those were options, to eek out another 5-10.
