You could ask yourself what do we bring to the table? In the big picture of college athletics.......not a whole lot. Had we gotten Smith earlier and built football up might've helped. If our basketball program wasn't a joke, that would help.......the other programs that football, and men's b-ball pay for don't factor into the fold much. We're not THAT bad.
The football team made $38 million with half a stadium. If we'd been at capacity, we'd have ended up 4th or 5th in revenue in the Pac-12. Basketball made $11.6M. That would be comparable to Oklahoma State, overall about $5M ahead of them adding football and basketball together. Basketball made more money than Colorado, Utah, Cal and Washington State.
And UConn hoops made $32.5M with football bringing in $18.5M. We'd be comfortably ahead of them by around $15M.
I thought it was all about TV market.....we don't add much in that respect

If you're saying UConn brings the Northeast audience, that's a problem because they don't care about football. What value does Rutgers bring the Big 10 with their almost NYC market? In 2022, they averaged 618k viewers per game, one spot behind Oregon State at 625k per game. Uconn was at 212k per game.
That's behind these teams, in order. Arizona, Colorado State, Boise State, Colorado, Air Force, Utah State, Arizona State, SMU, Houston and Fresno State among others.
It doesn't matter how many TV sets there are if they aren't switched on.

It does. With Rutgers and Maryland in the league, NYC and DC cable carriers can add the Big Ten Network and charge the consumer a carriage fee, which increases the revenue for the conference and the cable company. Even if no one watches.
UConn has an estimated $50 million athletic department deficit. It needs the Big 12 and its $31M annual payout. Big East basketball does not pay the bills.
