I would think it would be better for the media to know who was going to be part of the conference before making an offer. I haven't seen anywhere the reasoning behind going that direction. That approach alone brings uncertainty to the forefront.

Conversely, I would think a potential addition to the conference would want to have some certainty on the TV deal before signing on the dotted line.

The fact we are past Media Day and still no media deal or announcement is a sign the conference has no good or clear path forward on expansion or media deal. This is not good.

There is plenty of time, our current contract is good until July 2024.

I suspect there are reasons, however this thing has seemingly snowballed and in retrospect trying to get the media deal first was a big mistake.

I believe that it was the perfect being the enemy of the good. In a perfect world, you get the media deal done first. However, George asked for too much money out of the gates, scared off both ESPN and Fox, and now is scrambling.

How can you have a media deal when you don't know the schools you are bidding on?

How can you have a media deal when you don't know the schools you are bidding on? I think you are right. I also think there are several schools in this league who would refuse to sign off on sticking around unless they knew the media deal $$$, and they are kinda self-identifying themselves as time passes.

How can you have a media deal when you don't know the schools you are bidding on? The idea was that you would create a media deal with the teams that the media conglomerate wants included and, then, you would go out and add those teams. It's kind of like how Microsoft was selling DOS before they purchased it. It is a lot easier to acquire DOS after you have already received the money upfront for preselling it to the computer manufacturers. This assumes that the programs actually want to come, which is a non-existing hurdle.
