Here is my take on how the roster looks for next year which of course includes a couple huge question marks.
First question is, does anyone come back out of the transfer portal and onto next years roster? I’m not even sure that is possible. But if it is possible and does happen, that makes a huge ripple effect on the roster decisions.
Second question is, does any remaining roster players sign as undrafted free agents?
With those questions in mind (but assuming no one comes back from the portal) here is a few thoughts from my prospective. Typically, ‘on average’ our roster from year to year includes position player staffing at these levels:
Catcher 3 Outfield 6 Infield 10 or 11 So for 2023 Fall camp we have the following probable position staffing:
Catcher 3 or 4 if Talt moves over Outfield 9 with McDowell and Kasper, 7 otherwise (assumes Talt as OF) Infield 12 with counting Krieg as a 1B, rather then pitcher This looks like a normal year, with some tough decisions to be made, but not overwhelming.
Pitching is a whole another ballgame. Normal staffing and current prospects for 2024 pitching:
Normal Staffing 15 or16 Fall Camp Prospects 27
I am excited about these pitchers and hope for the best for each one of them.

The Oregonian says McDowell, Kasper, Hunter, Lattery are all back. Talk about a stuffed Staff and locker room. 4 transfer arms and one more headed our way.

Oregon State doesn't publish a fall roster but they do provide game roster sheets for the fall exhibition games. If you attend any practices, a roster is helpful (even without numbers). This is my attempt to assemble a fall roster for practice attendance. It's difficult to get them all, so please edit with any additions or subtractions you know about. Initially, I show 50 players and I believe we are back to 35 max this year.
OSU FALL BASEBALL ROSTER

RHP (25) Laif Palmer James DeCremer III Drew Talavs Matthew Morrell Eric Segura Easton Corey Bryce Johnson Isaac Hill Logan Miller Aiden Jimenez A.J. Hutcheson Rhett Larson Noah Ferguson Chase Reynolds Kendall Oakes Kyle Scott Jacob Kmatz Jaren Hunter Ian Lawson Joey Mundt. A.J. Lattery Stephan Montgomery Aiden May Bridger Holmes
C (4) Tanner Smith Wilson Weber Evan Gustafson Anthony Marnell
IF (10) Trent Caraway Levi Jones Reeve Boyd Dawson Santana Jacob Krieg Tryce Peterson Brandon Forrester Jabin Trosky Travis Bazzana Elijah Hainline
OF (6) Carson McEntire Zach Blair Dallas Macias Gavin Turley Canon Reeder Ruben Cedillo
UTL (3) Easton Talt Mason Guerra Brady Kasper *** Utility means IF / OF / DH / PH / PR / DS

The biggest question in my mind at this point is...Do we have the potential anywhere in this group for a shut down Friday night pitcher? If so, who is it?

Don't really have a position called Utility... They all have to field a position. Many players are in fact utility players. Catchers can play 1B or 3B. Infielders can play outfield. Even some position players can pitch.

Utility is a catch-all tag for players that we may see play multiple positions or in multiple roles in '24.
In 2023, Mason Guerra played 3B, LF and DH. I'm not certain that will change much in 2024.
Easton Talt played RF last year but the coaches are excited about his ability to catch. He also did some pinch running as I recall.
Kasper is an outfielder and a DH. Again, that may not change this year.
If you wish to pick a position for each, that's great but keep in mind you can contribute greatly to your team without playing defense.

The biggest question in my mind at this point is...Do we have the potential anywhere in this group for a shut down Friday night pitcher? If so, who is it? "Best buds" Jacob Kmatz or Aiden May? Hunter, Larson, Lattery, Lawson? Outside chance that it is Aiden Jimenez. We need to like roll two dice to decide which starter to throw each game.

Beaver fans will not be swayed by that "wine and cheese" stat called "saves"
We are meat eaters and want to know about the real stuff, like ERA, WHIP and BB:K ratio.

Only 58 players had five saves. Case Matter signed. I think about 18 others graduated. That leaves about 39 guys. Harrison Bodendorf? Kaden Hogan? Trevor Long? Brandt Pancer? Rashad Ruff? Kyle Scott? August Souza? Y'all can check those, if you would like, but those seem the seven most obvious of the list of 39.
