Alone in 1st this late in the year since august of 2016. Best record in AL Last year was the Orioles' first winning season since 2016. The Orioles finished tied for the Wild Card with Darwin Barney's Blue Jays in 2016. The Blue Jays beat the Orioles 5-2 to advance to the ALDS against the Rangers. Toronto swept Texas but lost the ALCS four games to one. That was Barney's last postseason appearance, too. Barney only played another year with the Blue Jays and then did not make the Rangers in 2018 and was done. I remember thinking about how weird it was to see Andrew Miller (North Carolina '06) pitching again to Darwin Barney in a Championship Series in 2016, more than a decade after the last Championship Series showdown between the two. Barney's last postseason at bat came against Miller. Miller jammed Barney, who flew out to left to end the eighth in Game Five. It seemed like Miller always had Barney's number. The Indians made the World Series against the Cubs, which I had said was a sure sign that the Apocalypse was not far behind. That was all in that 2016-17 Year of a Hundred Upsets.
