There was an old pitching coach who lived in a shoe. He had so many hurlers, he didn't know what to do. He gave them some broth without any bread; And whipped them all soundly and put them to bed. - Mother Goose Nursery rhyme.
Based on current data, it is possible the Beavers will start fall camp with as many as 31 pitchers on their roster. That isn’t likely but if no one signs a pro contract, everyone shows up, and there are no position changes, it is mathematically possible. Wow! only a few weeks to evaluate a very large group – let that sink in. This is what I show in my inventory and I may have missed someone.
RETURNING PITCHERS (8) Nelson Keljo Aiden Jiminez Tyler Mejia Rhett Larson A.J. Hutcheson Jacob Kmatz Ian Lawson Jaren Hunter
RED SHIRTED / INJURED PITCHERS (3) Isaac Hill Logan Miller Noah Ferguson
PITCHERS OF UNKNOWN STATUS (3) Joey Mundt A.J. Lattery Gibby Marshall-Inman
PORTAL TRANSFER PITCHERS (3) Kyle Scott Sam Whiting (drafted) Aiden May
J,C. TRANSFER PITCHERS (3) Kellan Oakes Chase Reynolds Bridger Holmes
POSSIBLE PITCHER CONVERTS (1) Jacob Krieg
PITCHER RECRUITS (10) Laif Palmer (drafted) Paul Wilson (drafted) Dane Lais (drafted) James DeCremer Matthew Morrell Drew Talavs Eric Segura Easton Corey Bryce Johnson Trent Caraway (remote possibility)

Lots question marks on the staff. Lots of unproven youth. The vibe of the team for next season feels like put up a lot of runs, and maybe give up a lot of runs. I hope I'm proven wrong on the "give up a lot of runs" part

Ryan Brown signed for $140,000. He flew from Oregon to Arizona on or about Saturday.

I do have a couple other names.
Spencer Green has been on and off of our radar, but still could show up in Fall Camp.
Also, Stephen Montgomery is a JC transfer from Iowa Western CC who committed to OSU back in February.
Both or neither could show up in the Fall.
With a 35 man roster, we could have 8 position players and 27 pitchers...

Green was committed for quite a while but then I read something along the lines of, "Green will not be a member of the OSU '23 class". Sure enough, he did not sign an LOI with OSU last November and has never been mentioned by our coaches in any of their comments and analysis on our class.
I saw a brief mention on one of the baseball sites that he was headed to Junior College. Baseball Northwest has reported his GPA at 2.0
You never say never but I'm not anticipating seeing Spencer practicing at Coleman/Goss this fall. He's a good prospect but it sounds like the classroom is currently an issue for him.
Montgomery is a good catch - I'll circle back through my notes. They are coming out of the woodwork and amazingly, at 30+ we may not be done with the late pick-ups.

Man, I am losing it. Completely forgotten about Montgomery after posting this on the recruiting board in February including my guess at the backstory - how we found him.
Prep Baseball Report lists his avg fastball at 92.5 Mph with 94 tops.
At 6'6 and 200 lbs he'll spend this year pitching for Iowa Western Community College
I like this pickup, this guy is a late bloomer that gives us another inning-eater out of the pen and another player to worry about - he is clearly on the MLB Scouts radar. The June draft looms!
Rapidly increasing velo (has hit 94 mph and climbing) with wicked run on the FB. Compliments the heat with a hard biting slider. Command is his primary issue. In 50 1/3 IP in his prep career, he walked 32 and plunked 9 batters. Played first two years at 7A Tampa-Plant HS, transferred to 6A Valrico-Bloomingdale HS for his Senior year.
I THINK THIS IS THE BACKSTORY: OSU pitching coach Richard Dorman was the pitching coach at Grand Canyon University during the 2017 - 2018 - 2019 seasons prior to coming here with Coach Canham in 2020. During his years at GCU, Coach Dorman recruited the Arizona JuCos - including Yavapai CC where he became friends with 10 year Yavapai Head Coach, Ryan Cougill (Coach Cougill sent us T.J. Wheeler) who is now the 1st year Head Coach at Iowa Western CC. Coach Cougill gets a good look at Montgomery in fall ball and makes a phone call to Coach Dorman.
"I have something here you need to see - I need him this year but he can help you next year"
Corvallis is a long ways from Cedar Rapids, Iowa but our well connected pitching coach is never more than a phone call away.
