The Pirates signed Forrester for $775,000.00 - His slot was 990,300.00. According to MLB, Brown, Kane, and the transfer Whiting are unsigned. None of the 3 recruits (all are pitchers) have signed. (Fingers crossed) The Ulagalelei draft is really interesting - no clue here.

MLB has said that Kane has signed but no one has officially disclosed for how much yet. Having said that, someone on the Board has said that Kane signed for $150,000. Based upon social media, I believe that Brown has signed, as well, but nothing has been announced. I have not heard anything about Uiagalelei, since Thursday, which is probably good news. I think that the Dodgers are probably waiting to see how Oregon State's nonconference games go.

Todays marks the 10th day since the MLB Draft began in Seattle on 7-9-'23.
To date there have been 4 Beaver signings announced. Forrester, Brown and Kane have signed and Sellers signed with the Yankees as an UDFA.
Still showing as unsigned are Wilson, Lais, Palmer and Whiting.
Wilson has a slot value of $945,100. Lais, Palmer and Whiting have no slot value assigned.

Then a 3rd at a bit of a discount. I think they're going to run out of cash to sign him, but you never know. I just checked their signing tracker, they've signed their top 10 picks now for around 500k over their slot. Looks like Laif will either take $150k or come to Corvallis and make a bunch more money in 3 years.

Laif Palmer is a high ceiling prospect and is sure to be surrounded by some "signing intrigue" in the days ahead. I wouldn't predict that he will sign but I would predict he gets a fairly stout offer - certainly enough to make him consider it.
Texas drafted 18 players. As of tonight, they have signed 14 of them.
Texas drafted 13 pitchers in the '23 draft. 5 are college pitchers, 4 are Junior College pitchers, and 4 are high school pitchers. They needed pitching and appear willing to pay for it.
The Rangers had a published draft pool of $9,985,300. They have exceeded that by millions. They signed their first round pick (Max Clark) for $8,000,000. That left $1,985,000 to sign the balance of their 18 player draft. I don't believe they can defer bonus payments, so on the surface it looks like they have to ignore the pool number. How can you finance a draft when you're paying your first pick more than 80% of your pool?
Texas lists 3 or 4 draftees that have signed but the bonus is listed as "unknown". On those 10 or 11 signings where the bonus is disclosed, they have spent $13,559,000 which exceeds their pool of $9,985,000 by more than just a few Pesos.
If they want Laif Palmer bad enough, I'd think $400-550k would be the range. A Ranger offer of $150k is really a no-brainer, but I think the Rangers may do much better than that and give the guy something to think about.

I have the Rangers signing their first 8 picks (all of the Rangers' picks in the first 10 Rounds) for $10,307,900. They have exceeded their bonus pool but still have $113,665 before they exceed the 5% cap. They cannot sign Laif Palmer for more than $263,665, or they will forfeit at least their 2024 First Round pick. No team has ever done that before, and I doubt that the Rangers are going to be the very first for Laif Palmer. Basically, Palmer could probably hold out for about $260,000, but that is all that he could ever hope to get this year.

Yeah, and that's assuming they don't spend that extra money on their 11th round guy, who is an Oregon commit. Or, one of the other high schoolers that went in the 16th, 17th or 19th rounds.
Other news, Sam Whiting has signed with the Padres for $150k.

Definitely getting paid. Good for him, hope the potential arm issues are just a blip.

I think that the Dodgers are probably waiting to see how Oregon State's nonconference games go. Just to follow up, Kane signed for $150,000. The Rangers look out of luck with Palmer, unless Palmer jumps at $260,000 or less. The Dodgers, so far, look like they have saved up $356,400, which means that they could dump $505,000 or so on any signing in Rounds 11-20, if someone wanted to jump at that. The Dodgers, also so far, have an additional $287,765 that they could dump on a signee, if the Dodgers wanted to dip into their 75% tax money. That means that they could realistically offer signees in Rounds 11-20 about $790,000, without breaking the bank. With Green and Uiagalelei down there in picks 19 and 20, I would still love another signee start eating up some of the Dodgers' slot money. Less than 86 hours left before the unofficial signing window closes. (I believe that the signing window is different for players, who have graduated or will graduate by June of next year.)
