Well, look at this. The CW got rights to tier 2 games and they are taking care of business.

Well, Larry Scott left a mess. And he cleverly began his tenure with a splashy "almost landed Oklahoma and Texas" deal that I now wonder if he ever realistically was going to land - at least it gave him cachet and hoodwinked the Pac-12 Presidents into thinking they had a credible leader on their hands. GeorgeK - I don't know if he is up to the task, and I don't know if the perfect storm of circumstance makes it hard for ANY leader to land a good media deal. So far, the jury is out on him for me. We are already hearing that we shouldn't expect anything by July 21. It behooves even the "nervous Nelly" conference teams to wait it out and see if the numbers add up, because the road to the CFP seems more tractable in a Pac-10/12/14/16 with UCLA and USC out of the picture, but I suspect that patience is not in infinite supply.
Best case scenario, GeorgeK cobbles together a media deal for stellar money and exposure that not only has the Pac-10 teams happy, but entices some tasteful combination of SDSU, Boise, SMU, CSU, USU, UNR, UNLV, Fresno, .... to join up and create a Pac-12/14/16 with some hefty clout. Medium case scenario, GeorgeK cobbles together a deal that holds the Pac-10 together in the interim, near future. Worst case scenario, the deal is not made, or is not enticing enough, and Oregon and Washington depart with UCLA/USC, maybe taking Cal and Stanford with them. The Four corner schools bolt as well. That leaves WSU/OSU and maybe Cal/Stanford looking for seats at other conference tables. I have no insights into what is likely, but the intrigue around media deals and questions about GeorgeK's ability to get it done grow with time. My completely baseless bias is in the thought that UO/UW think they are too good for a dimini$hed Pac-10 and will jump if afforded the opportunity and reasonable optics around a departure (can you tell I am not a big fan of those schools?), and one or more of the Four corner schools will blink (likely Colorado) and cause a cascade effect there. Because at the moment media/entertainment companies have a lot on their minds, and as someone pointed out, there is no audience west of the Pac-10 geography (at least none that Larry Scott managed to engage). Interesting times ahead, in the otherwise uneventful summer sports dead period :-). Go Beavers!

Maybe this is why we haven't heard anything on our deals. It seems unlikely that the CW just wants to run one tier-2 ACC game a week. They probably want to be able to provide a multi-game schedule each week and compete with Fox and ESPN. But that would require deals with at least two conferences - an ACC-Pac12 doubleheader each week sounds like a pretty good Saturday package. Likely a CW-Pac deal was contingent on the CW also getting this deal with the ACC.
Let's hope.

I for one would certainly welcome that as someone who doesn't subscribe to cable TV ... would be awesome to get games on another channel over the air for free besides the other local networks.

When it was the Pac12 on The CW, it was viewed as weak and ridiculed. With the ACC, it's a great idea and being celebrated. Typical.

UC Davis, U British Columbia, U Calgary. My opinion: No, No, and No. UC Davis is 20 miles west of Sacramento. "Sacramento, CA is in the 20th largest DMA in the United States, with a population of approximately 4 million people and 1,502,080 television households, as reported by Nielsen Media." [2023] It's a high ranked research university. UBC: the TV market is 2.65 million [2021]. They play US rules football in the high schools. UCalgary: [Combining Calgary and Edmonton] has a TV market of 2.99 million [2021]. They still play CFL rules.

When it was the Pac12 on The CW, it was viewed as weak and ridiculed. With the ACC, it's a great idea and being celebrated. Typical. I would normally agree with your sentiment here, but Stewart Mandel has been generally positive about the Pac 12's chances of getting a satisfactory media deal. In fact, there are a fair number of people outside of Pac 12 circles that call him a Pac 12 homer/cheerleader, in league with other Pac 12 homers such as Jon Wilner and John Canzano. If he was, and if he thought the Pac 12 might make a deal with the CW, he is exactly the sort of person who would call it a good thing that the CW signed with the ACC. I would not be at all surprised to learn that the Pac is looking for media partners that are outside the traditional (read: ESPN and Fox). If the CW, or Ion, or Apple, or Amazon, or whatever are offering something that's benefit the conference, I'm all for it.

And widely recognized as the single best agricultural school in the world. Better than Wageningen? Apparently not. Oh well. It's been about ten years since I've seen the rankings. Looks like Davis has been surpassed.

There are nice facilities in Vanouver. The former Olympic stadium, now known as BC Place, is about 50% larger than Reser. There is also a nice hockey arena right next door that could easily convert to basketball, about twice the capacity of Gill. The sticking point is whether there is suffiicient interest there in American style collegiate athletics. Calgary is the only one of those 3 with a reasonable sized stadium.
