The Hurricanes started their ace, Scott Maine, who was drafted in the sixth round. Maine would play in The Show three years, during a 13-year professional career.

Buck fell behind the first two batters in the second but came back to force full counts but still walked Tomas and Rodriguez. Tekotte bunted Tomas and Rodriguez over. Buck walked Weeks and then gave up a bases-clearing double to Giles. 5-0 Miami. Buck rebounded to get eight of the next 10 Canes. However, his luck runs out in the fifth, when he gives up a leadoff double to Valencia, and Raben homered to make it 7-0 Miami.

Eddie Kunz replaced Turpen. Kunz induced Rodriguez to groundout to second, but there was a lightning delay of 94 minutes. Kunz still pitched after the delay. Tekotte singled through the right side. Kunz then walked Weeks and Giles to load the bases. Jay tripled to clear the bases. Valencia singled to score Jay, but Cole Gillespie was able to throw Jay out at second after Jay tried to turn his single into a double. 11-0 Miami.
With Maine out, Oregon State started to get going. Chris Kunda started the bottom of the eighth with a walk, and Gillespie drove him in on a one-out triple. Geoff Wagner replaced Mike Lissman and struck out swinging. Mitch Canham grounded out to the pitcher to end the eighth with Gillespie stranded at third.
Bill Rowe added a two-out triple in the ninth but was also stranded. This game remains the only time in Oregon State postseason history that the Beavers hit two triples in the same game.
