June 16, 2007 Oregon State 3 - Cal State Fullerton 2
Highlights of the first four games at the 2007 College World Series starting with Cal State Fullerton:
June 16, 2018 North Carolina 8 - Oregon State 6
Two minutes of terrible highlights:
Oregon State has never played on June 14th. Both the Super Regional and College World Series can be played on the 14th. However, the only years that Super Regionals could be played on the 14th were 1999, 2004, 2010, and 2021, and Oregon State did not advance to a Super Regional any of those years. Moreover, Oregon State was on the wrong side of the bracket in 2010 and 2021 and could not have played on the 14th without a rainout. The next year that Oregon State could try to win on the 14th in a Super Regional would be 2027.
The College World Series can be played on the 14th, however, the only years where that was true were 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2014, and 2015. And Oregon State did not advance to Omaha in any of those years. Moreover, the Beavers were on the wrong side of the bracket in 2015. Oregon State can try and win on the 14th in Omaha from 2024-2026 before it becomes improbable again.
Oregon State has never won on the 15th. The 2013 College World Series started on the 15th, which was Oregon State's earliest start in Omaha since the 1952 edition. (College World Series back in that time period started 1-6 days earlier than they do today.)
Mississippi State defeated Oregon State 5-4. Danny Hayes hit a shot off of Jonathan Holder to the wall in right that Hunter Renfroe managed to haul in over his shoulder. Renfroe had earlier scored what turned out to be the winning run in the eighth by lining a ball off of Matt Boyd's back to get on with one out. Two batters later, Renfroe was doubled home for a 5-4 lead. The outcome squandered a great effort by Andrew Moore, six hits in 7.1 innings. And it squandered an even greater effort by Michael Conforto, who reached in every at bat. Conforto finished 4/4 with two doubles, a run, an RBI (Conforto drove in the first run off of Kendall Graveman and scored the second in the first), and a walk. Conforto also managed to get Moore out of a two runners in scoring position with one out jam by catching Adam Frazier's fly ball in left and then throwing a strike to Jake Rodriguez to gun down the runner at home and preserve a 3-2 deficit in the second. Oregon State retook the lead in the fifth after Conforto doubled off of Graveman, which moved Andy Peterson over to third, and Dylan Davis drove Peterson in on a ground ball to second. Oregon State threatened in the eighth by putting two of the first three runners on, but Holder came on to eliminate the threat.
