The All-American (and future NL wins leader) Ian Kennedy was USC's starter. Kennedy was 12-2 on the year. His first loss was to Texas A&M 3-1 in Round Rock, Texas. His second was getting outdueled by Buck 5-4 (Buck only gave up three of the four).
Jacoby Ellsbury started the first with a ground ball to first that the first baseman booted. Tyler then hit a ground ball to third that the third baseman booted. Barney was plunked to load the bases. Andy Jenkins then hit a flyball to left to score Ellsbury to pull within 2-1. Both pitchers retired the six hitters in the second in order. Buck got the first batter in the third but then gave up 1B, BB, 1B, and 1B, USC up 4-1.
Kennedy and Buck then combined to retire the next six batters.
In the fourth, Jenkins started with a groundball to short that the shortstop threw away. Shea McFeely grounded into a double-play. However, Geoff Wagner walked. Cole Gillespie hit a ground ball to second that the second baseman booted. to drive in Jenkins. Ryan Gipson then hit a groundball to short that the shortstop booted. 4-3 USC after four.
Buck pitched his way in and out of trouble in the fifth by giving up 3B, HBP, and HBP to load the bases with one out before inducing the next two batters to hit infield flies.
The pitchers then retired three of the next four batters over the next inning.
In the sixth, McFeely led off with a double. Mike Lissman came on to strike out. Gillespie singled to the left side and both runners moved over on a bad throw by the shortstop. McFeely scored on a wild pitch, and Gipson brought Gillespie home on a base hit through the left side. Gipson's base hit chased Kennedy. Kennedy had given up five runs but only one was earned. USC had committed six errors, which was only the beginning.
Each of the pitchers then retired three of the next four batters over the next inning.
Buck got the first two batters in the eighth but then gave up a walk. Kevin Gunderson got the final batter to ground out to first.
Chris Campos came on for Lissman and walked. After an out, Campos moved over to third on a pickoff throw gone wrong. Lonnie Lechelt ran for Campos. Gipson hit a long fly ball to left that the leftfielder dropped. Ellsbury walked. Graham hit a groundball to third, which the third baseman successfully fielded to get Gipson. Barney singled home Ellsbury to make it 7-4. Jenkins then hit a three-run shot to put Oregon State up 10-4.
Gunderson gave up two base hits in the top of the ninth but stranded them both for a 10-4 win.
With the win, Oregon State was a game away from going to Omaha for the first time in 53 years.
June 11, 2006 Oregon State 15 - Stanford 0
Chris Kunda started things off with a base hit up the middle. Cole Gillespie hit a base hit to center, and Bill Rowe singled to bring home Kunda. Tyler Graham hit a ball back to the pitcher who threw it away to load the bases with one out. John Wallace struck out looking. Mitchy Slick was beaned to make it 2-0, and Shea McFeely brought home Gillespie and Rowe with another base hit. 4-0 Oregon State after one, which was more than enough runs. Jonah Nickerson scattered five hits and two walks through 7.2 innings. And Eddie Kunz and Daniel Turpen would combine for a perfect 1.1 innings to close out the game. Oregon State's offense would score six in the fourth and two in the sixth and eighth before tacking on the 15th run in the ninth. The Beavs punched their third ticket ever to Omaha, setting up the first game with Miami. The win enabled the team to get a much-needed five days of rest before the College World Series, which wound up being quite necessary.
June 11, 2007 Oregon State 8 - Michigan 2
Oregon State's ace, Mike Stutes started. Stutes only pitched to one batter more than the minimum into the sixth and only two more the minimum into the ninth. He gave up solo shots in the sixth and ninth before giving way to Eddie Kunz, who retired the final three in order. Michigan finished with only one runner LOB. Very efficient! Oregon State stranded 12.
Half of Oregon State's runs were scored in the second. Braden Wells started off action in the second by getting plunked. Lonnie Lechelt, Jordan Lennerton, Chris Hopkins, and Joey Wong followed Wells up by each drawing a walk and 2-0 lead. Darwin Barney would give Stutes all the run support that he would need with a two-run base hit to right. Oregon State tacked on three more in the fifth by loading the bases and then driving three runs home with a squeeze, balk, and Barney double. 7-0 into the sixth. After Michigan made it 7-1, Wallace and Scott Santschi would get it back. Wallace walked. Wallace then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Santschi then drove in Wallace on an infield single.

June 11, 2011 Vanderbilt 9 - Oregon State 3

Parker Berberet hit a two-out base hit up the middle to drive in Ryan Dunn from second and make it 2-1. After giving up the home run, Wetzler retired eight of the next 10 batters.
Oregon State loaded the bases on 1B, BB, and E1 in the bottom of the third, but Berberet could only drive in one on a long fly ball to right. Wetzler pitched his way into and out of trouble in the fourth by loading the bases and the inducing an infield fly and groundball to second to end the threat. Oregon State ran itself out of its half of the fourth.
Scott Schultz replaced Wetzler. Schultz loaded the bases and gave up a run on an unusual 8-4 fielder's choice to get Yaz, who was loafing to second from first. 3-2 Vandy. Oregon State loaded the bases with one out with 2B, BB, and BB. However, Bell struck out swinging, and Jake Rodriguez hit an infield fly to end the threat. Boyd gave up two unearned runs, because of catcher's interference in the eighth. Bell hit a window dressing home run to pull within 9-3 the final.
Vanderbilt advanced to Omaha to beat North Carolina twice but also lose to Florida twice. South Carolina would beat Florida for its second consecutive National Championship. Oregon State and South Carolina remain the two teams this century to win back-to-back National Championships.
