ESPN threw up a graphic that showed that Oregon State currently holds the record for longest period of time between two College World Series appearances. The Beavers did not go to the College World Series between 1952 and 2005, 53 years. They then threw up the graphic that showed that three teams are currently vying to break Oregon State's record:
1. Oregon 69 years (1954) 2. Wake Forest 68 years (1955) 3. Duke 61 years (1961)

I also pointed it out earlier, but I will again. Oregon State's current College World Series drought is the Beavers' longest since the drought between the 2007 and 2013 College World Series. The two droughts are Oregon State's longest since the 52-year drought between 1952 and 2005.

Seems unlikely that all 3 of those go down. A record I'm fine with losing lol.
Oregon shouldn't count the years they did r have a program.

Wake won the title in its last appearance. Until Virginia finally won several years ago, they were the most recent ACC team to win.
Wake is cool. It's a nice campus, I visited there when considering schools but it was too far from home and in those days a little too religious. They've pretty much severed their ties with the Southern Baptists, a real fun group.

The ACC has built an eight-year drought since.

Physically and in enrollment it's a small school. I went to the NCSU @ Wake game in 2017. The stadium is not on campus. The stadium is smallish. Maybe 30k. It's a simple horseshoe where the field was excavated and the grandstand was built on the spoils. There are smallish concourses under the sideline grandstands. I can't think of a good comparison for the Pac-12. But it's a little bit like what if university of Portland started in the the old Pacific Atlantic Conference and now 100 years later they are still part of the conference.

Enrollment is very close to Santa Clara. Santa Clara played in the AAWU (which became the Pac-8 two years later). However, Santa Clara was denied entry as a full AAWU member, because of its religious affiliation. So, Santa Clara moved over to the West Coast Athletic Conference in 1968. The West Coast Athletic Conference dropped the "Athletic" in the late 80s to become the West Coast Conference in the late 80s. Santa Clara had a football team that played at Buck Shaw Field, which became Stevens Field. That is were the MLS' San Jose Earthquakes played soccer from 2007-2015. That Field never held 31,500, but it seems like it might have, if the AAWU or Pac-8 had ever sent the invite.

Wake's stadium used to be Groves Field or Groves Stadium, before Truist bank started buying the naming rights to everything in the Southeast.

Wake's stadium used to be Groves Field or Groves Stadium, before Truist bank started buying the naming rights to everything in the Southeast. Switched from Groves to BB&T in 2007. BB&T then was merged with SunTrust Bank to form Truist Financial in 2019 (after the 2019 regular season). The new field was changed from BB&T to Truist to start the 2020 season. A not so fun fact is that at least nine of the 9/11 terrorists had bank accounts at SunTrust, which they were using to illegal finance the 9/11 operation.

The answer was, "Nope." Wake 22 - Alabama 5. Wake off to the College World Series for the first time in 68 years. Virginia 12 - Duke 2. Duke opts to wait and try to break Wake's current record. Oregon winning 3-1 in the second.
