Interesting super..... The Bible Thumpers vs. The Dirty Hippies I expect the ducks to win their Super Regional. If they don't I'm stealing a line from Al Michaels in 1980 at Lake Placid. "Do you believe in miracles?" "Yes!" The comparison isn't good because the Russian hockey team vs our amateurs might be the biggest upset since David vs Goliath. The ducks have superior talent to ORU but not on the level of *USSR vs USA Hockey. However, if they lose I'm using it anyway to "rub salt in the wounds" of a duck fan. * There is a line from this game that gives me chills as a guy that competed in sports. It was said after the 2nd period by USA coach Herb Brooks, with his team trailing Finland 2-1 for the Gold Medal. "If you lose this game, you'll take it to your f%#*ing graves." He then walked towards the locker room door, paused, looked over his shoulder, and said to them again, "Your f%#*ing graves." We won 4-2. I remember it as a 9 year old but didn't understand the importance.

Great way to treat your renters and partners, Duckies. The Ems might end up in Keizer, if their owner can buy the lease to Volcanoes Stadium from Jerry Walker, an owner neither MLB nor MiLB want anything to do with. Much cheaper to spend $10-15 mil to retrofit Volcanoes Stadium than to spend five or six times that on a new Eugene Stadium. I've also heard they could play at Ron Tonkin Field and Hillsboro, which is building a new, larger stadium, could have two teams. Either way, without new digs they are not staying in Eugene. Both options keep the team on the I-5 corridor, and actually reduce travel for every other team in the league. Seems like the Ems went along with the whole sharing when they were still in short season, and that didn't create a conflict with the college baseball season. But after the MiLB realignment, they were stuck with an overlapping schedule. One other note is, during regional weekend, there were some OSAA state baseball title games at PK Park. Same issue could have arisen had o hosted a regional. True under the original agreement the Ems signed with the UO back in 2010 the contract stipulated the Ducks get exclusive rights to the venue in the case of hosting a Regional or Super Regional ... like you said at the time they didn't foresee that being an issue since the Ems were in short season. It would be nice though if the UO could kick the Ems a few bucks to help defray the costs they are going to experience having to reschedule at the last moment ...

"Boring" no matter the spelling. I like Norman & Stillwater as names for a city better than Eugene. Eugene sounds like an ignorant bum name, while Corvallis sounds like a cool name with "swag."

I'm not a Mason BTW but I like their contributions to civilization.

So there's that. My wife had me watching a sitcom with Levy in it that was hilarious. I'd rather be watching baseball or football, but a marriage is about the art of compromise. Forgot the name of it .....something creek or river......my memory isn't what it used to be. P.S. About compromise... my wife doesn't really 'do' or understand compromise..... but I love her anyway😀

The United States of America repulsed the Canadian Invasion of New York at Plattsburgh on September 11, 1814. Major Skinner was briefly captured during the Battle but managed to escape to continue the fight. The Invasion of Baltimore started the next day and was won by the United States of America on the 14th. The United States of America also won the First Battle of Fort Bowyer (the fort that guards Mobile Bay) the day after the Invasion of Baltimore was repulsed. The United States of America's three victories four days apart forced the United Kingdom to the negotiating table in Ghent. General Jackson's victory over the British and Spanish at Pensacola 7 1/2 weeks later expedited peace negotiations with the Treaty of Ghent being signed on Christmas Eve in 1814. Eugene Skinner's older brother was St. John Bull Skinner. St. John served in a rifle company at the Battle of Plattsburgh. St. John went on to be the Assistant Postmaster General of the United States from 1853-1872 (from the Pierce Administration through the first term of the Grant Administration). Eugene Skinner made a donation land claim for area from Skinner's Butte to the river. Skinner made money operating a ferry. Later in life, he used part of his land to start laying out "Eugene City." Skinner went on to be a lawyer, Lane County Clerk, and Eugene City Postmaster.

So why wasn't it named Skinner?
The capitol of Mississippi isn't named Andrew, the capitol of Wisconsin isn't named James, the capitol of Missouri isn't named Thomas and the largest cities in Ohio aren't named Moses and Christopher.
That city was ass-backward from the get-go.
Watergate burglar Howard Hunt had a son named St. John.
The final concert of the Happy Wanderers, AKA Yosh and Stan Shmenge, was named the Plattsburgh Disaster.

The word skinner usually referred to tanners back then and tanneries smelled bad. So, it was named Eugene, as opposed to Skinner. Christopher still is not Columbus' first name. Howard Hunt was not a Watergate burglar. Hunt was in charge of the five burglars. The Plattsburgh Disaster usually refers to the Great Fire of 1867, which burned up most of Plattsburgh's business district, making Plattsburgh appear to be a bombed out Southern City. There was also a smaller fire in 1929. I should have added that the Battle of Plattsburgh remains the final battle between American and Canadian forces. The Invasion of Baltimore, First and Second Battles of Fort Bowyer, Battle of Pensacola, and Invasion of New Orleans all involved battles between American (and, occasionally, their First Nation Allies) against British (and sometimes Spanish and their First Nation Allies). There were some associated naval actions, but they were minor in comparison with the land actions. The United States of America and Canada have been at peace since the Battle of Plattsburgh, despite the occasional major international incidents surrounding the Aroostook War, the Pig War, and St. Alban's Raid. Tensions between the two countries have greatly cooled since the 1871 Treaty of Washington and subsequent arbitration by Kaiser Wilhelm to settle most of the remaining issues between the two countries.
