Remember when Okie State and T Boone threw a hissy fit because we had the same colors and OSU logo as they did? So, Oregon State changes to an OS logo and all is good......until today. They are playing Dallas Baptist and on their hats and batting helmets, in large letters, is 'OS'. I guess they just want to be like the Beavers. Flattery.

Oregon State went 28-3 in "nonconference" play (including a sweep of Georgia in Athens, a 12-4 win over Pac-10 Champion Arizona State in Surprise, and a split with Texas A&M in College Station) and effectively finished fourth in the Pac-10. I would say that the Beavs earned their spot. The Committee often sucks. 2007 was no exception. Nice cherry picking. We tied for 6th in conference and other than Georgia, we had a cupcake non conference. We had monster non conference series wins over the likes of Evansville, Hawaii Hilo, USF, UNLV etc. We also lost both games to Texas A&M. Not sure where your split is coming from. We won the non conference game against ASU, but they swept us in conference. 10-14 conference record. We only got in because of 2006. Smails, I want to apologize for calling you an asshole last night.....I was out of line. (Too much alcohol) We have a big game tonight and my commentary towards you last night was bothering me this morning. Go Beavs!

Did they buy up some surplus inventory from us?

Washington and Wazzu were ineligible to be selected for record and RPI reasons. So, it was California and Oregon State for the fourth and final Pac-10 spot. Oregon State had an RPI of 35. California had an RPI of 66. And Oregon State beat California in their series. Texas A&M beat Oregon State in the first game 5-2, and Oregon State beat Texas A&M in the second game 6-5. I am not sure where your sweep is coming from? Oregon State lost to Gonzaga in Surprise and Saint Mary's in Davis. Those were the other two losses. Texas A&M was the third loss. You fault "cherry picking" and then actually cherry pick by leaving out Missouri. Missouri finished second in the Big 12 in 2007 and hosted the Columbia Regional. Oregon State beat Missouri 9-2 in Surprise. No. You are incorrect. The official OSU website says we lost both Texas A&M games. Maybe they screwed up? We beat Missouri one game…it’s not like it was a series. There was also a lot less reliance on RPI back then. We were lucky to get in. If you click on the 6-5 loss, it shows that Oregon State won 6-5. Anton Maxwell had his final Oregon State start before being moved permanently into the bullpen. Maxwell stranded a runner on second in the first and bases loaded in the third. Mike Lissman hit a towering homer to left in the first for a 1-0 Oregon State lead. In the third, Darwin Barney and Joey Wong started with base hits, and Lissman drove in Barney for a 2-0 lead. Dale Solomon drove in Wong on a ground ball and then Jason Ogata homered to left for a 5-0 lead. Mark Grbavac replaced Maxwell and gave up an immediate home run for a 5-1 Oregon State lead. Grbavac retired seven of the next nine, leaving runners on the corners in the fifth. Blake Keitzman came on and allowed two of the first three runners to reach but got Brandon Hicks to ground out to strand two. Lissman led off the seventh with a double. Ogata flew out to center to move Lissman over. Braden Wells drove in Lissman on an infield single to make it 6-1. The eighth inning was the last, because of Oregon State's travel arrangements. Texas A&M was 0/6 with runners in scoring position entering the eighth. Keitzman started well by inducing a fly ball, but hit the second batter. Keitzman struck out the third batter but gave up a walk to the fourth. Jorge Reyes in his seventh appearance for Oregon State replaced Keitzman. Reyes walked the first batter that he faced to load the bases. Reyes then served up a meatball to Hicks, who hit a grand slam to pull within 6-5. Eddie Kunz replaced Reyes to get the final batter to ground out to Barney to end the game. Kunz with a save. The win was win #14 for Oregon State in 2007, a 14-3 start. The Beavers were ranked between #7-#9 before the games in College Station and were ranked between #7-#9 afterward. Yes, the official Oregon State website is wrong. They have the Beavers' 2007 record wrong, as well. They list the record as 47-20, when Oregon State went 49-18. The official Oregon State website lists an Evansville game as a loss, when Oregon State won that game as well. Texas A&M's official website also lists the game as a win, but it is an obvious error if you click on the game on their website. Evansville's official website, however, gets all three games against Oregon State correct. Oregon State's official website generally sucks for several reasons. I would hazard to say that you get better information from me. As for less reliance on RPI: 1. Rice 2. Vanderbilt 3. Texas 4. North Carolina 5. Arizona State 6. Florida State 7. Texas A&M 8. Virginia 9. South Carolina 10. Missouri 11. Long Beach State 12. Coastal Carolina 13. Mississippi 14. Miami (Florida) 15. San Diego 16. North Carolina State 17. Arkansas 18. Clemson 19. Louisiana-Lafayette 20. Mississippi State 21. Wake Forest 22. Wichita State
Regional Hosts
1. Rice 2. Vanderbilt 3. Texas 4. North Carolina 5. Arizona State 6. Florida State 7. Texas A&M 8. Virginia 9. South Carolina 10. Missouri 11. Long Beach State 12. Coastal Carolina 13. Mississippi 15. San Diego 17. Arkansas 22. Wichita State
RPI was a different formula back then. It was changed in 2013 and gamed to a larger extent since. But it was still the tool of choice for filling out a bracket. The Committee would never give eight Regional Host spots to one conference, but you can see that the Committee largely stuck to it, while filling out host sites and the bracket writ large.
Oregon State's RPI of 35 in the Pac-10 was still a big deal and merited entry, as did 28-3 in nonconference play and wins against the top two teams in the Big 12, including the 6-5 win against Big 12 Champion Texas A&M in College Station, and a sweep against 2006 College World Series participant Georgia in Athens.
Like the resume screams Tournament-bound. The Committee almost screwed it up but did the right thing in the end.

One obvious thing again today that we can all agree on: don’t stretch on the Sam Houston right fielder. Another assist today.

Sam Houston-Tulane in lightening delay. Will only be like an hour per that tiger guy? I actually hope for a short delay, but, at the same time, I would lmao if there was a big delay.
