In April our pitching was the talk of the Pac 12. Then things went south for a lot of our guys. I think it's possible that someone picked up on some tells, and word got around. That can be fixed, but not a lot of time to do so.

Seems more likely that we lost hunter who was giving us the most quality innings as a starter. This creates more work through the bullpen from top to bottom including weekday games.
Also hitters tend to improve over the season while pitchers tend to get worse as the season wears on.
Finally all pitchers will be victims of good analytics. The more they pitch the more data they have on their pitches and comfort zone. This is also true of batters but it's much easier to get analytics on pitchers left ho have 2-4 pitches and various comfortable locations than accurately tracking 9-12 hitters. It's a chicken and mouse game that favors hitters. Pitchers may know where the hitters are weak but the hitters know where they will be targeted. Pitchers envelope for error gets smaller the more they throw and their control tends to weaken as the season wears on.
It's seen all over college baseball and you can tell the really special guys if they maintain performance all year.
You see it in the MLB too but there's way more special talents at that level than in college.

I was trying to figure out how a chicken and mouse relate before I realized that you probably meant two different metaphors.

Just another auto correct typo brought to you by Google and severe arthritis! I stand by it though, sounds like ancient wisdom.

The only thing I know is our pitching wasn't good at the end of the season. Offense scored a lot of runs but the pitching gave up more. Just isn't the normal pitching fans are used to from the Beavers. Analytics is relied on too much in my opinion but that is the rage for awhile. Whatever the problem is, they better get it figured out quickly. If they don't the post season will be short.

Brown and Ferrer are legit Aces for college ball (They got batted around too) but past that we have lots of good arms and lots of young arms. One of our most veteran starters isn't even draft eligible and is in his second season. It's very fair to say we don't have a typical championship level bullpen. It's not fair to put a ceiling in the team as you can win it with a good bullpen and silly offense. It's very fair to say we have silly offense.

It's weird looking at that staff as a year vs career. WHIP was like 1.5 but the talent was there. Stutes, Reyes, Osich, Peavy, Robles, Starr, K-Rod, and Sitton? That's pretty killer but some were young and some just had awful seasons. Talent showed up in the post season!!! Hope the parallel carries to this young and talented staff with some grizzled veterans having a rough year.
