I watch a lot of Utah games and saw the vast majority of minutes that Kelsey played during her first 3 seasons.
Here's what you get: a very good combination of strength and mobility, a hard worker with high energy, and excellent court awareness. Neither an offensive nor a defensive specialist, just someone who does what her teammates need on both ends of the floor.
She was in a difficult position at Utah because she always alternated with very different types of posts like Pendande, McFarland and Pili. Offensive game plans primarily kept her alternates and guards in mind so Kelsey was never put in a good position to generate stats. There will be no such problem here - her game is very compatible with Raegan so Rueck can just run the same plays when she subs in.
Many players get lost in the shuffle in a crowded transfer portal and players like Kelsey are undervalued because they don't have an eye-catching stat sheet or highlight reel. You can only fully appreciate their potential value when you have seen them game after game, season after season. I was wondering who was going to be smart enough to grab Kelsey and I'm glad it was the Beavs.
Great job in the portal OSU WBB Coaches! Outside of having Aleah playing PG, we have the next best thing...Aleah coaching our guards! Time to renew season tickets. As long as the team stays healthy, OSU WBB can be special this upcoming season. I remember what coach Jonas told me at the kick off-dinner last year..."the freshmen class reminded him of Syd Wiese's class when they were freshmen". Lots to look forward to in the 23/24 season.
Well we have a injury to Raegan so it looks like a possible knee that doesn’t fair well.
I saw landing Rees as a huge get for Rueck and the Beavers when she announced. We'll have to see but I think she will wind up as one of the missing pieces that OSU has needed to get back into Pac-12 contention and to the NCAA Tournament.
