Interesting stuff....clearly Lattery wasn't going to go Thurs/Sunday so will be interesting to see if Ferrer sticks in rotation for Regionals...

Looks like Lattery or Ferrer to start first in Scottsdale. Probably the other one in game two, Kmatz in the semifinal, and Sellers in the Championship Game.

If the aim was getting to Omaha, something had to change It might be that they are angling to get Sellers a week off to rest up, in case of a non-Championship Game scenario. It is great to see Ferrer getting healthy. He has come a long way, since getting wrecked by Stanford. I hope that Jaren Hunter makes a reappearance soon. The silence about him is deafening. Similarly, I hope that Mundt makes a reappearance soon. The silence about him is deafening.

Going 1-1 leaves it up to tie breakers and fate in the other pools. You can't pitch "fly ball" Kmatz in a semi, in that stadium, hoping to use Sellers in the title game. You get to title game then do whatever.

Kmatz gave up four runs, three earned, in Tucson last year; three runs in 5.2 innings last year against UCLA in Scottsdale; and three runs in 5 innings against Arizona State in Phoenix this year. He has shown that he can throw in Arizona. Sellers gave up five earned in five innings in Phoenix this year. Plus, Sellers has more strikeouts but lags behind Kmatz in pretty much every other meaningful category. Kmatz is risky, but that Scottsdale Stadium plays big, especially to center. Hopefully, whenever Kmatz pitches is a night game. That will take a lot of air out of those fly balls. Kmatz at night and carry off the trophy with Sellers.

The last pitch Mundt threw is still orbiting in space, somewhere above Fort Worth. To paraphrase the great man, "Waste your spring praying in vain for a savior to rise from these streets."
We are what we are. As Mr. George said (yes, we agree!), do everything you can to win the first two to reach the semis, and go from there.
"You don't save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain." - Leo Durocher

I really like the idea of giving Sellers the rest. The last two games, he wasn't his typical self. I suspect some sort of nagging tightness or injury. Or just pooped out.
Plus, win or lose, we're going to a regional somewhere. The odds are slim that it's at home, so let's play for the greater odds--that we are playing in enemy territory.
And in the end, we're going to need our bats to come alive.

He pitched a perfect seventh and eighth the game before. But they then get him back out there on zero days' rest, and he tosses that meatball right down the middle on the first pitch. And that is what people remember. Mundt's last pitch was actually a beanball. He beaned the two hitters after the grand salami that he served up. It was obvious that he never should have been out there in the first place. Great pitcher, who they trotted out there on fumes. Sucks.

Mundt was on fumes. His fastball in previous outings had already lost velocity. The guy at bat was in a terrible slump and had extreme difficulty with off-speed and breaking balls when he wasn’t slumping. So a fastball is called???

Hopefully Game 1 in Scottsdale will be Ben. (3) of Lattery's last (4) starts have been rough. Utah being his only quality start. His (3) worst outings of the season have been 4/23, 4/30 and 5/14. Beginning 4/23 ( including Utah) he has yielded 15 ER in 12 innings pitched, with a 1.92 WHIP. Another arm that looks to be trending in the wrong direction is Lawson. Beavs may have to play ASU style ball in Scottsdale. Perhaps that's fitting

Why are we playing western Carolina? Are they the sacrificial lambs for tournament bound D1 teams?

Why are we playing western Carolina? Are they the sacrificial lambs for tournament bound D1 teams? Tough to find someone to play here, who also had a bye week at the end of season We will never know why, or who was approached & their response. But, early on someone posted multiple other teams that fit our bye weekend.
