The Cal basketball program didn't deserve a 3 win season. There's a proud tradition and too many resources for that, but sometimes the bow must break and the cradle must fall to understand how bad it can get (at OSU, we're numb to it). Enter Mark Madsen, the new Cal coach who's already fast-tracking his program back to relevance. On March 29, Madsen was hired. Since then, Cal has already reshaped their roster. The Bears have landed transfer Michael Meadows from University of Portland, Fardaws Aimaq, a center from Texas Tech, NAU Guard Jalen Cone and former 5 star recruit, Jaylon Tyson from Texas Tech. It's an impressive start for Madsen and fortunately for Cal fans, shows the ease in which Cal can self correct with the right coach, support from the school and new found NIL advantages. Adding to the momentum, Cal is ready to break ground on a $100M new practice facility in 2023. Madsen has an ambitious goal of winning 20+ games this season and contending for a Pac12 championship. This would be one of the biggest turnarounds in NCAA history, but he's going for it. So far, his plan is working. Cal went 3-29 last year and finished 12th in Pac12 last season. For the Beaver MBB program, the Cal resurgence puts OSU under the spotlight, in dangerous territory. But after 30 years, we're comfortable with it.

As long as the recruits don’t see these.

Really liked this hire for Cal. Not so sure he’ll be contending for a conference title in year 1, but Cal fans have to feel better than they did last year.
