I would like input from the group on how much interest, involvement, commitment, etc. they have now (with the new transfer, conference re-alignment and NLI) as opposed to in the past.
For me, the Beavs have been and always will be "my team" to follow. That is unchanged.
However, I would estimate that for me the lack of player continuity, the increasing realization that money is all that seems matter as opposed to quality and equitable competition, and the increasing cost of the product in various respects has significantly diminished.
I realize this is a rather esoteric, and in some ways very vague , topic but still hope that group members would contribute their excellent comments and observations.
Thank you!

College sports provides enjoyable entertainment for me. My fandom is not deep in that I don’t follow recruiting at all and have zero interest in practices. Never have and never will.
In inning 9 of game 3 of the 2006 CWS championship series I promised all the holy powers above that if they allowed OSU to win this game I’d never ask for anything else from OSU sports ever again.
So I enjoy the wins and take the losses in stride. I certainly don’t lose a second of sleep over them. FWIW I just took the dive and invested in 2 FB season tickets on the new side of Reser. Hoping for another great season like 2022.

This feeling is not isolated here. I believe the decrease in attendance across the board in all sports is from the most recent changes in college athletics. I think over the years you need to learn to not become too emotionally involved in all of it. Keep your expectations low and you will be happier about following college sports in general. Loyalty to the program and vice versa cuts both ways.

Thanks for the response.
I realize that I accept the losses easily now as opposed to in the past.
Also I no longer spend money on football or men's basketball game attendance, but would still consider attending baseball games and women's basketball games.
Following player development and progress as well as team improvement year by year has always been what I enjoyed most. That has diminished greatly in the new era for me.

I absolutely love OSU WBB & OSU Baseball. The Men's NCAA Basketball no longer interests me. I like many of the OSU Athletic Programs because we have some fine coaches at OSU.

Skyrider and I have similar sentiments. For me; too many dashed expectations (my own fault), age (my parent’s fault), experience, (no fault, just growth and maybe wisdom) and the NIL/portal () are the “culprits.” Perspective most DEFINITELY changes, as well as priorities, once I started my career, family, and even more intensely (interestingly enough) as I became a “papa!” GRANDPA X FIVE

Can’t help but agree with all the sentiments voiced above. The main take I have is that we best enjoy what now exists before it all disintegrates out of the once cozy college experience. 🎶Those were the days my friend…🎶

Lots of player development to look forward to in 23-24 from Raegan, Timea, Adlee, AJ, Marta, the incoming freshmen and others. Should be a fun season.

I'm hoping that the recent spat of transfers from the women's basketball team was about isolation from covid and will now be a thing of the past. The only oddity was Brown and she went to Duke with her best friend the player and her best friend who is a coach. So if OSU is now stable then I'm a happy boy. But if the players are successful and then start getting snapped up by LSU etc then my booster days are a thing of the past.

Right on to your astute comment!
I am hopeful that the assistant coach the Beavs hire will be a big factor in that area.
I think continuity is a big factor that could help the Beavs next season. That and a full and speedy recovery for Talia.
Go Beavs!

I am a Beav through and through. I think NIL and such is just the latest problem. Far more troubling is how hard it is just to watch the games. The only Men's and Women's games I watched this season in entirety were the ones I attended in person. I don't have access to the Pac-12 network. Back when I was really into it, we watched the Beavers every Saturday on channel 12. As did most of my friends, so you had something to talk about. Now? Well football is pretty easy to find, but any other sport is impossible. I turn on my TV on Saturday morning and watch Michigan vs. Purdue, or some Big 10 matchup, then it's all just a random mess.

Didn't go to a men's or women's basketball game for the first time in 38 years. Crappy weather, late starting times, if it's 7 p.m. and raining I'm not leaving the house.
Only went to two soccer games. Didn't go to a volleyball, gymnastics or wrestling match, or softball game. These are all things I used to do on a regular basis.
Won't miss a FB game if at all possible, but a big part of that is tailgating. Love baseball too but the last two years of cold and wet every game has dampened my interest somewhat and I've happily skipped games I may have attended in the past. If they bump up my season ticket by $200 or so, I'm out.
My interest and enjoyment remain high, but my financial and in-person participation haven't.

I have totally developed a peace of mind that my lack of presence does not deteriorate my love for the Beavs. I can remain the total fan I am with the help of the TV and play-by-play. Gave up football tickets years ago and if the rumor holds true of baseball going to a donation fee next year....that means more TV and play-by-play. Men's college basketball has no interest to me ever since it went to the need for three officials and nothing more than a track meet up and down the court. Women's basketball has seen the fastest growth in attendance and viewing for obvious reasons. I hope it stays that way and they will continue to have my support. Bottom line.... college athletics is going down the wrong financial path.

As I've gotten older I hate being cold more and more. Part of that is why I'm not in Oregon much.

Like all major changes, NIL will take some time to shake out. It is going to take a few years for the NCAA, P5, and everyone else to figure it. But a couple things remain true:
> Football pays the bills.
> FB, MBB, WBB will continue to be the tier 1 college sports.
Right now state level law dictates the nuts and bolts of NIL and Oregon is more restrictive than most other states with multiple P5 schools. The main difference being that the schools/programs aren't allowed to broker, or otherwise be involved in, NIL deals. Whereas in Texas the programs can broker to the point they can guarantee numbers to recruits. Texas Tech guaranteed $30k for MBB and WBB last season. Texas Guarantees $50k to football players. Mark Campbell is stacking an arsenal of talent at TCU so I can only imagine there's a pretty nice number for those players.
So if I blame anyone it is whoever wrote the law for Oregon on NIL.
