Here's what I want to know about Turley: why would we play him as DH? Isn't he supposed to be a '5-tool' all-world everything with amazing speed and a rocket arm? I'm just really struggling with what the hell is going on with this kid. I see two possibilities: either there's a nagging injury involved, or we are witnessing as big of a scouting/player evaluation blunder as you'll ever see in baseball. It just boggles my mind that somebody who was on the cusp of being drafted for millions is fighting and clawing to earn a spot in the 9 hole (and mostly falling short of that). Yeah yeah, he's a freshman, I know. So were Conforto, Madrigal, Adley, Barney, Ellsbury, etc. At what point do we start asking the question of whether Gavin's incoming pedigree was bullsh&t? Did this guy have everybody fooled or what? Adley did not hit very well his freshman year. There’s still time for Turley to figure it out.

Maybe more than a few after that video review. Sheesh. Just an angry crowd. I wouldn't worry about it. Every fan base has a drunk foghorn that sounds like Nick Nolte. The problem is that we have 4 or 5 at least every game. It makes me cringe and reflects poorly on the rest of us at the game.

Great game. Hope they can match that hitting performance on Sat/Sun.

Three recent Beaver players that doubled (or greater) their OPS between Freshman and Junior seasons: Adley Rutschman, Trevor Larnach, Michael Gretler

In regards to Turley.
I am a baseball fan, as such I am always wildly optimistic for no good reason
I have seen him twice in person. He has the look of a ball player
He is 18/19, give him some time.

At this point in his freshman season, Rutschman was hitting .214 with one home run. And he was hitting .206 later in April. Bench Rutschman! He was an obvious miss!
Brilliant!

You're kinda making my point. We never benched Rutschman, or any of our other freshmen phenoms when they struggled. So if Turley is so great and just has to adjust and "figure it out" like those guys did, why is he riding the pine?

From the start, Turley obviously overswung at most pitches he's offered at this year. However, recently his swing seems to be a bit more measured and he is walking more than n the past.
Way too soon to make definitive judgements one way or the other.

Without looking I'm betting AR didn't have 40 Ks in mid April and look completely overwhelmed. Hell, not sure AR had 40 in any one season?! So the giving a youngster time plays. The comparison to young AR doesn't.

Larnach is the all-time Oregon State single season strikeout leader with 66, and he's..........y'know............ok.

Steven Kwan hit .215 with seven RBIs and absolutely no power as a freshman.
Trevor Larnach hit .157 with three RBIs as a freshman.
Baseball is hard. Baseball requires making constant adjustments. Some players take longer to adjust than others. Some never do. We have a pretty good record of player development, if the player is willing to do the work (ie Justin Boyd, Wade Meckler, Jacob Melton).
Time will tell, but less than 40 games into a player's career is no time to give up on someone.

Baseball is a mental sport.
We know Turley has the physical ability--he showed a lot of it in the first few games. But like most freshmen, he's just a kid and experiencing this all for the first time. He had success, and then he hit a wall.
I, for one, am happy that Mitch is showing enough faith in him to let him work it out. It will come.
Boy, it sure was fun watching him harass the pitcher when he was on second.
