Losing Turley must have hurt. Pac-12 Network isn't working for me right. But Turley working that count is a great sign for Turley moving forward. Not to mention Turley getting into the Pitchers head while at 2nd base.

Brown only at 11 pitches. Will he come out for the 9th? If he can finish off the ninth with less than say 14 pitches, you probably keep him out there, so he can try and pick up the save. But he should not throw more than that, if you can help it at all.

So we need to risk not being able to use him tomorrow w a six run lead?

So we need to risk not being able to use him tomorrow w a six run lead? He's hot. Why heat someone else up, as well? If someone got on, you maybe think about pulling him. It worked out just about perfect. 23 pitches. If he has a normal arm, he could throw at least another 20-25 pitches tomorrow or you rest him a day, and he can go full on Sunday.

Interesting that Turley in the 9 hole, with an 0-2 count draws a walk. P kept trying to nibble at the corners. Never attacked. I wonder if he was concerned about Gavins power, or just trying to be too fine. seeimg more pitches can only help Turley get out of his funk. He does seem to be getting more selective

Nice night for baseball at Goss......that Weber line drive was something....114 mph exit velo!
Im super happy for Micah! What a game! And he drove the ball.....that last double in the gap was sweeeet!
Great to see the lineup continuing to hit at a high rate.....pitching was solid.....lots of good plays in the field.....particularly Kane, Guerra, and Macias....pitching, defense, and timely hitting is a winning combo.

I'm not sure how folks see Turley as getting any better?
The last 7 games 2 for 21, 4 BBs, 10 Ks. And, for the most part his swings are wild misses.
Although what/who is the better option for a 9th bat?
15 players have seen plate appearances in Pac12 games. Only 3 in all 16 games. And 9 are hitting below .200.
Hopefully the bats continue with timely hits.

Here's what I want to know about Turley: why would we play him as DH? Isn't he supposed to be a '5-tool' all-world everything with amazing speed and a rocket arm?
I'm just really struggling with what the hell is going on with this kid.
I see two possibilities: either there's a nagging injury involved, or we are witnessing as big of a scouting/player evaluation blunder as you'll ever see in baseball. It just boggles my mind that somebody who was on the cusp of being drafted for millions is fighting and clawing to earn a spot in the 9 hole (and mostly falling short of that).
Yeah yeah, he's a freshman, I know. So were Conforto, Madrigal, Adley, Barney, Ellsbury, etc. At what point do we start asking the question of whether Gavin's incoming pedigree was bullsh&t?
Did this guy have everybody fooled or what?

Did this guy have everybody fooled or what? It's the same as all high school rating systems. They are based on word of mouth, highlight tapes, and very little multiple in-person evaluations. The same goes with a lot of the pro scouting reports made public. Scouts view tons of kids but I've never had any publicly release info about a prospect. They talk to the coach and share basics, but most of the extreme hoopla is embleshments by ratings/draft sites from conversations. You never know how a high school "star" talent will translate to D1 ball. No matter what high school league you play in the talent jump from that level to D1 is huge. Couple being on their own for the first time, classes, extended time in their sport, and the social aspects of college it's a tough balance. If a player has a weakness baseball will find it. There are many "talents" that struggle early. Some never pan out @ D1 and go play at lower levels. But, even then there's a ton of good baseball played at those levels too.

In baseball especially you have to be patient with a top talent that struggles early in his career @ the D1 level or MLB level. Case in point: Jarred Kelenic of the Seattle Mariners. The former top prospect and first-round Draft pick struggled mightily his 1st 2 years with Seattle getting sent down to the minors multiple times and came into this year with a career .181 BA/ .363 slg%. Now 23 yrs. old he seems to have figured it out currently hitting .366 with a monster .780 slg% and a monster 1.203 ops---5 doubles and 4 HR's so far this season including a 482' HR that is the longest HR ever hit by a Mariner in the statcast era! He is on pace to hit 46 HR's this year if he can keep it going! Thank goodness the Mariner's stayed very patient and positive with him through his struggles the last 2 years!

The best part of yesterdays win we actually swung at first pitches several times. You have to be aggressive.
