I'll admit I'm not an expert on gymnastics scoring, but it's interesting to see how Jade, currently one of World gymnastics most successful competitors is seemingly disadvantaged under the NCAA's 10-point max scoring system.
International gymnastics scoring recognizes and rewards higher levels of difficulty than the 10 point maximum scoring system still used by the NCAA. The latter results in much more weight and emphasis on the event dismounts with tiny steps becoming major deductions. This might beg the question, why doesn't Jade decrease her difficulty to the minimum required for a base 10 point difficulty and just concentrate on being as perfect as possible in those limitations. I think the partial answer is that Jade's ultimate goal is not NCAA competition but international competition - pointing toward the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Therefore she's not going to change her double-twisting double back on floor (helped her score 14.366 in her 2020 OG gold medal) or her double twisting Yurchenko on vault (the most difficult vault being performed by any NCAA performer. Scored 14.733 for her 2022 WC gold medal) because she needs to perform them at Senior Nationals, Worlds and Olympics.
And If I were in her shoes I'd do the same. NCAA championships are nice but they aren't Olympic or World championship gold medals.

I'd love to hear bbuck3 's opinion on this subject since the whole scoring system seems to be very subjective for NCAA meets (even homerific). Would it really benefit the current gymnasts to have a similar scoring system to Olympians? Maybe exclude extremely difficult items that are deemed too dangerous for non-Olympians?

There has been a ton of discussion around scoring this year. While something needs to be done about the judging and tweaks need to be made, I can’t see the NCAA going to the international system. I personally think the fans would struggle to understand it. We all know what a 10 is, but do you know what a 13.667 or 11.555 is? People don’t realize how different it really is. The reason Simone Biles is so good is because she can do so many crazy difficult skills. She may not have the execution others have, but her difficulty overcomes any of that. NCAA gymnastics is about execution. I don’t think it will go away from that. Now, in my opinion, judging needs to be tweaked and judges need to become more strict. There is also a human element that I think has gotten out of hand with respect to “the name on the front and back” of the leotard. Jade is not immune to that to the benefit of the Beavs. My daughter and I watch college routines all the time. She will come to me and ask what I think the score should be. Not that I know anything about judging, but 9 out of 10 times the score I think it should be is a quite a bit lower than what was given. There is a great article in the Washington post about the current situation. Here is the link: www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/04/12/ncaa-gymnastics-scoring-perfect-10s/Sorry about the rambling on. I don’t even know if I provided anything useful or not. 😂

One other thought that my daughter had. The skills that Jade is doing in the NCAA are not hard for her. My daughter thinks that it would actually be more difficult to try to “dumb down” her skills for lack of a better term. Jade has been doing her current skills for a long time. Interesting perspective from someone who actually knows.

It coincided with her gymnastics dreams so she was able to "grab one and not let go of the other". Even if she's able to do this for only one year, it gave everyone an experience of a lifetime.

Well she’s already done it for 2 years here, so that’s been great. She’s been the one athlete that we have greatly benefited from NIL coming into play. She would have had a much tougher decision if she couldn’t have received NIL from the tour the US Olympians took after the Olympics.
