Final results. OSU 4th by 0.10
1 University of Denver (#14) 197.875 2 Louisiana State University (#6) 197.750 2 University of Michigan (#3) 197.750 4 Oregon State University (#11) 197.650
Tiebreak goes to LSU for 2nd spot at national finals.
Good performance by OSU. No falls or blown routines. Just not perfect enough by a razor thin margin.
In other regional action, UCLA, Utah and Cal qualify from Pac-12

DU had its best meet of the season. Scoring is always so subjective, getting to be at home obviously helped.

I am pretty bummed that Jade will only be competing on the beam at Nationals.
She deserves a shot at the All Around.

Osu gymnastics has been at the same level for probably 20 years or so. Was hoping this staff could take them to the next level. Coach Turpin got OSU just outside the elite 8(another term used) and I was optimistic osu could take that big next step. We have had several really good individuals like Jade. Hoping osu can use that beautiful new practice facility to attract even better athletes. Fun sport...

Yes, obviously I am talking about athletic ability and not the rules. Would love to have her take a shot at the All Around title, but that is not going to happen.

The Beavers advanced to the old Super Six and finished fifth or sixth in the country in 1994 at Alabama under Turpin. I believe that's our high-water mark. 1993 was set to be a great year, NCAAs were in Corvallis, but Chari Knight tore her ACL in January. That really hurt us obviously and I believe we took 7th. Amy Durham won floor that year, she is our final national champion.

Not that it is bad,but I know coach Turpin always talked about making that Super six and was close. Was hoping osu could at one time contend for a team National championship. Maybe not in the cards with this staff.

Wow! Until just recently the team was practicing in a repurposed theater building too small to properly handle floor or vault. Somehow the Chaplins kept us competitive for two+ decades, winning multiple conference championships against far better funded and higher profile schools. And somehow they guided the program to a sixth-place finish at Nationals in 2019.
They did it against far more competition than Turpin ever faced. It was objectively easier to get into the top 12 (Nationals) back then that it is to get into the top 16 (i.e. regional finals) today. In 1998 (the furthest back that the results are posted online), you could be two full points behind the #1 team and still be in the top 12. The WORST Chaplin-coached team managed to stay within 1.3 points of the #1 team - they would have certainly made nationals if they had only been born 25 years earlier.
So, yes, the worst Chaplin-coached team was at least in the same category and might have been better than Turpin's very best.

I can’t take you seriously.

It will continue to be tough to compete for the actual National Championship in gymnastics due to the fact that the top teams are so far ahead of everyone else, and the preferential treatment that these schools get. With that being said, I believe making Nationals (Top 8) is the goal every year for the Beavs and is attainable on a semi-regular basis. I do know one thing, the Chaplins are some of the very best around, both as coaches and as people. I know us as fans always just look at wins and losses, but you will be hard-pressed to find an ex-Oregon State gymnast who did not become a better person because of the Chaplins and their program. One of the final statements they made during my daughter's recruiting visit was something to the effect that "we definitely want to win championships, but more importantly we want to prepare you for life after gymnastics." This statement was the most impactful statement that we had in all of the recruiting visits. Just my two cents.

You have no clue...

I think the clue here was this statement: Which on these boards are words usually associated with coaches who didn't just miss making nationals by a tenth of a point.
