"Perhaps Canham-Dorman know this team isn't playing in the post season and taking the opportunity to develop the talent that will compete next year."Whoa... great info! I can stop wasting $$ at the homes games and traveling to select away games. My tix at Goss can be sold to those who don't get to see games, albeit games not involving a post season OSU team. Is it a new attribute MC has acquired in that he can not only know the future of his own squad, but how the other 10 programs will fare, and how the NCAA selection committee will draw the regional teams. New or not, it is going to save me a boat load of dough. I'll even consider just giving away my tix since I'll be saving so much money knowing how the season will play out. Yeah... Why do hate the quote feature? Because of the OP...

They can be simultaneously trying to make the post season, and developing talent for next season.....it doesn't have to be an either/or.
Did the team dig a big hole out of the conference gate? Yes they did. Can they dig out of it? Yes they can. There's just less room for error going forward. Beating the dawgs helped. Winning a series in the land of the yellow toilet seat is the next step.

You only attend the games because you think the team is postseason bound?

I continue to be mystified by some Canham-Dorman in-game strategies and pitching changes. For example, we are in a deep hole in the PAC standings and need every win we can salvage if we have a hope for the post-season. Yet, when we might have a chance to sweep a series and really gain some ground in the conference, Dorman inexplicably brings in a (literally) totally untested freshman pitcher. It was hardly surprising when the kid immediately blew up and largely cost us the game. Why is Dorman essentially experimenting THAT moment? Also, why is our bunt game occurring with such frequency when decent hitters need hits, rather than using the bunt mostly for sacrificing runners to the next base?? I could go on. To my eyes, these kinds of coaching inconsistencies and strange moves reduce Beaver player's chances for success. I believe that neither Canham nor Dorman has adjusted to the fact that they're coaching the college game, not MLB. Perhaps Canham-Dorman know this team isn't playing in the post season and taking the opportunity to develop the talent that will compete next year.

Since this team does show excellence at times...and a seemingly lackluster approach at times, maybe their route to post-season lies in Scottsdale May 23-27 (that's only 50 days away). If that be the case, perhaps getting many different players experience is the ticket - so Canham / Dorman are geniuses. This years' tournament is a brand new format, with 9 teams total (instead of 8). It begins with three (3) team 'pools'...round robin...with each pool winner (plus the best also-ran) advancing. Beavs are currently in 8th place in PAC-11, so they would qualify. At present, their 'pool mates' would be ASU and UW. As I understand it, all the Beavs have to do is go 4-0 in Scottdale and they're "IN" the post-season. With their staff, I see this as a near certainty (just a tiny bit of snark there.....but I wouldn't rule it out).

Assume you must solve this set of problems:
1. You have 8 new pitchers on your team and 5 of them are freshman. You have 8 pitchers returning from 2022 and 3 transfers. 1 transfer pitcher is injured and is out for the year and 2 freshman are being red-shirted. How many freshman do you pitch, and under what situations do you pitch them. Do you expose them to PAC-12 play or do you prepare them for next season with intra-squad games and bullpen sessions.
2. You have 9 returning position players, with 2 out for the year with an injury. You have 2 new transfers and 7 freshman. Same situation, how many freshman do you play, when do you play them or can you best prepare them with Intra-squad games, practice and BP.
3. You want to maximize your season wins and reach post-season play. Does that preclude you from playing freshman to any meaningful extent? Can you do both successfully or is one only achieved at the expense of the other?
4. How much consideration would you give to the transfer portal? Knowing that most players are in the Portal looking for an opportunity to play and not for NIL. Would that impact your thinking in playing freshman (or veterans you want to retain)?
