Texas is now the highest-seeded team as the only #2 seed left.

Hard to believe this is the Mountain West’s first Elite Eight team (bracketing the history to the conferences existence since 1999, not the whole history of teams contained since UNLV certainly got there before). And that includes Andrew Bogut Utah teams, SDSU with Kawhi Leonard, a really good Nevada team in 2018, and Jimmer Ferdette BYU teams. Still breaks my brain that OSU managed more elite eight appearances until this year than that whole conference

In a matchup that no one saw coming that will determine who will play for the national championship (of course that is how this whole tourney has gone so far):

MOST folks would never guess that Padre GREAT Tony Gwynn is SDSU’s basketball all time assists leader. Interesting read in his wiki profile that he almost didn't play baseball at SDSU. He wanted to play both sports but the Basketball coach wanted him to concentrate on basketball and the baseball coach had never seen him play. His sophmore year two outfielders riding bikes got hit by a car and the shortstop had played against him in high school and talked the coach into letting him try, AND, at the same time the basketball coach had been canned and the new coach was ok with him trying two sports. Great athlete with a great story.
