I watched the second 2018 North Carolina College World Series game at the Luxor. After the Las Vegas Bowl, I stopped in there, walked upstairs, and almost immediately left to go to New York-New York. When the Luxor opened in 1993, it was the tallest structure on the strip, until Treasure Island surpassed it. The Luxor is approximately seven meters taller than the Red Pyramid and is, as such, the third-largest true pyramid in the World behind the Pyramids of Khufu and Khafre in Giza. Luxor could not be built taller at the time, because of its location in comparison to the airport. The Great Sphinx out front is 110' high, a full two stories higher than the Great Sphinx of Giza. After it was built, the light that shone from the top could be seen 275 miles away, basically from Los Angeles on a clear night. Because pilots complained, it was adjudged too bright and intentionally dimmed. A not-so-fun fact is that Tupac Shakur was staying at the Luxor, before he was shot en route to Club 662. The Luxor is a cool place. It was revolutionary once upon a time and was nice after the 2007 remodel. But it desperately needs a remodel again, if not a complete tear down and rebuild at this point.

Interesting. I've walked through it many times over the years. A decade to decade and a half ago I thought it was a dump. 5/6 years ago we actually stayed there because it was cheap and close to a convention at the Mandalay Bay, and it had really shaped up and was in the process of remodeling the bulk of their rooms apparently, we stayed in a not yet remodeled room in one of their "newer" towers, and while a bit tired looking it was clean and just fine. My guess is that they did their remodeling and then haven't touched it since, too bad as it was actually a decent place a few years back.
I think their main attraction is they're often on the low end of pricing, there are a lot of nicer places out there these days.

Sounds as if the problem wasn't with the hotel itself, but that the rooms had not been cleaned.
Stayed there for the Las Vegas Bowl in 2003, vs. UNM. It was OK, not great, but very convenient to the airport and the south end of the strip.

It's awesome, especially if you are into Hookers and Raider Jackets.

I've stayed there a few times, once for about two weeks. It's a typical close to low-end strip hotel. It's a little better than the Excaliber. My last extended stays have been at the Rio. Ceasars doesnt invest a nickel back into that place. I don't pay resort fees so it's cheaper than somewhere like Motel 6. The sports book and sports deli are still very good.

Stayed at the Rio about 5 years ago and my wife and I got unusually sick and were very sick by the time we got home. Got a letter about three months later from the Rio stating there was a Legionnaires outbreak when we were there. No sorry, no gift card, no discount. It was pretty run down at the time and we regretted staying there even before we found out what caused our illness. I think Flamingo Hilton was our best experience in Vegas, but that was years ago. I avoid Vegas now as they rarely have any good deals on hotels or food anymore and they all scam you with resort fees. Treasure Island charged us a resort fee even though the pool was closed. Next to go is free parking as hotels are starting to charge for that too.

I've stayed at the Excalibur the last 3 or 4 times I've been to Vegas for the conference tourney and the Vegas bowl. Never had any issues there and really enjoy it. Always on the cheaper end too. Easy walk to the NY-NY, ParkMGM, and MGM Grand which IMO is an enjoyable part of the strip and very close to T-Mobile. Walk through the Luxor every now and then and have never been particularly blown away by it.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget for the LV Bowl and my room smelled badly of mildew. I got there late and was too tired to try to switch rooms. It was nasty. There were also wet towels and washcloths on the floor of the bathroom.
The attitude of the city in regard to cleanliness appears to be "good enough." Yes, a lot of the casinos are impressive structures and are well-maintained, but the rest of the town is dirty, with litter blowing around the (surprising number of) vacant lots. A lot of the city outside the strip looks beat down. A lot of the restaurants take too long to clean tables after customers have left. There is a desperate vibe about the place, which is no surprise considering the center of the economy.
It's a fascinating place, especially Fremont St., but one in which I feel no need to become further acquainted.

I stayed at Luxor for the bowl game. I had booked it six months earlier at a ridiculously low rate. The room was ok, clean, basic. The casino was pretty dark. The Book was small but adequate, good enough to cash my Beavs+8.5 ticket! It was an easy walk to Allegient Stadium. The tower rooms are supposed to be very nice. It’s not Cosmo or Wynn, but I’d stay there again, especially for a stadium event.

Cheap, convenient, clean, had 2 or 3 pools and I don't gamble so who cares what the casino is like.

Remember staying at the Luxor the last time I visited Las Vegas back in 2002 ... I didn't have a issue with it especially for the price and actually remember the bathroom in the room I stayed was pretty nice with a giant bathtub that I enjoyed soaking in after wandering around the Strip all day.
The only other time I have been to Las Vegas was 2000 and stayed at the Excalibur ... again fine for the low price I payed for the room but admittedly back in the days when I liked to go on road trips I always sought out cheap accommodations such as the Motel 6 in particular so I was not a hard customer to please lol
It appears the Strip is a lot different looking these days with all the new hotels and developments over the past 21 years when I was last there.

The only time I've been in the Luxor was ten years ago to attend the Titanic exhibit, which was pretty cool. We were staying at the Excalibur, which I thought was okay - nothing great, but not bad.
I've attended the April broadcasting convention in LV practically every year (but not this year) for the past three decades, and I much prefer to stay a lot closer to the LV Convention Center, so I can go back and forth (on foot) during the day.
