Well yeah he's a narcissistic nutjob. He likes to name drop insults at me then doesn't let my posts through. Psycho bully. On the bright side he's driven off so many posters there isn't much good content there anymore. Team definitely looks like it's going to have a down year and it's not meshing yet. Were loaded with offensive talent but consistency can't be radon through the order if you want to win. Pitching has innings of disaster and brilliance. 6 of our loses are 3 runs or less. His ears were burning cuz he's talking about you today on AB lol Oh I know. I read to see what nicebeav has cooking and bill for baseball. Beav in OH does lots of quality stat posts too. AB posts about me there anytime his site comes up here. Then he makes me sound crazy and pretends he lets me post while blocking or deleting anything I say. He's gone beyond thinking he's an insider to just knowing everything with no sources or evidence. Like I said though the content has gotten sparse so not much to see.

How realistic is the post season for this team? When is the last time OSU missed the post season? If I had to rate the chances of recent OSU teams reaching the post-season, via the 'route' of winning the conference tournament, it'd go like this: best chance: OSU baseball 2023
medium chance (but tough): OSU WBB 2023
least chance (nearly impossible): OSU Men's BB 2021 Scottdale, late May, is still 'out there'. If the brightly shining pieces of the 2023 OSU Baseball team come together by Conference Tournament time, they'll win it.

How realistic is the post season for this team? When is the last time OSU missed the post season? 2016 and 2008 were the misses since the first NC run. 2016 was 35-19 but 16-14. More than a few people thought it was a snub. 2008 was 28-24 and 11-13 in conference. To overcome a bad RPI you need 37-38 wins for an at large bid. With a high RPI people get in with 30 pretty often. 2009 37, 2010 32, 2019 35, 2021 37. We have 34 more games and need to win 26 of them to for sure be in without leaving on RPI. We need to defend our home field voraciously for the rest of the season and avoid any sweeps. "Voraciously."

2007. So there's that. The fourth conference loss was also Oregon State's seventh overall loss, same as 2023. Although, the 2007 Beavers were already 24-7, as opposed to 12-7. 2007 Oregon State won game three on Holy Saturday to get to 2-4 in conference. Oregon State then beat Portland and California at Goss two games to one and followed that up by winning the next midweek road game (against Portland in 2007) and the next road Pac-12 series (Stanford in 2007) to even the Beavers' conference record at 6-6. Almost all downhill for the next three conference series after that, though en route to that 8-13 conference start in 2007. Oregon State managed to win the last series and then went 11-1 thereafter to pick up National Championship #2. The last time that a 12-6 Oregon State lost to fall to 12-7 was 2006. The Beavers lost at USC to lose the first road series. Oregon State then went 22-4 thereafter to post a 34-11 record to end the first week of May. A lot of baseball left, but Oregon State needs to kick it into gear. Another loss in the next three games would put the Beavers into a pre-2004 trajectory. Five straight conference losses. That is the most since 2010 (seven). Stanford swept Oregon State for the first time since 2010. (Losses 3-5 of the seven mentioned above.) Stanford swept Oregon State at Sunken Diamond for the first time since 2001. 1-5 is Oregon State's worst start in conference since 2000 (swept by UCLA at Goss and lost two-of-three down at Packard). That 2000 team rebounded to win the next two games at Goss against Arizona to get to 3-5. 3-5 was also the start in 2007 with a split against California after a midweek win against Portland. Oregon State finished the third conference series with a 4-5 conference record in 2007. 12-8 is Oregon State's worst overall start since 2003 (10-10). But 2006 Oregon State started 13-7. The 2006 Beavs won the next three to get to 16-7 before dropping a weekend game against San Francisco to drop to 16-8, which is the 2023 Beavs' next chance to catch back up to 2006. The only team with a worse start than 16-8 in the post-2003 era was 2008, which went 14-10 to start. For completeness, 2003 Oregon State started 13-11. 2-6 is Oregon State's worst start in conference since the 1-8 start in 1999, the Beavers' first year in the combined Pac-10. With a win, though, Oregon State would catch up to 2010, which is the last time that Stanford swept Oregon State. The other two series in 2010 were a 2-1 series win against USC and a 2-1 series loss to UCLA. The Beavers then lost the series 2-1 to Wazzu and got swept by California in Berkeley in 2010, a 4-11 conference start. Oregon State then won three of the final four series to save the season. The next-worst start for a post-2004 Oregon State baseball team was 2007. The 2023 Beavers can catch 2007 by winning three-straight games. That would put 2023 Oregon State two games clear of the 2010 Beavers. 14-9 is Oregon State's worst overall start since 2008. 2008 and 2023 are the worst two overall starts to a season since 2003. 2012 is the next-worst overall start at 15-8. The 2023 Beavers would have to win four straight to catch 2012. The last team to start 16-7 was 2006 Oregon State. The 2023 Beavers would catch 2006 and 2021 Oregon State with seven straight wins.

Wilky I appreciate the time you put into the stats, but I think previous years in baseball mean nothing relative to the current season. The only thing that matters is.....what direction will this team go from here? Will they improve at the plate? Will they clean it up defensively? Will they keep key guys healthy? Is Mundt coming back? Will Turley get a better approach before the season ends?
The hole they've dug is pretty deep at this point, and it doesn't let up. Gotta spank a bad Seattle U and then prepare for a really tough road series at u dub. If we can win that series, and build on it, we may have something.

Gotta spank a bad Seattle U and then prepare for a really tough road series at u dub. If we can win that series, and build on it, we may have something. I wouldn't say nothing. It is often good to get a little perspective. Every season, there is a span, where the pretty much everything is bad and the sky is falling. And 80% of the time, all of the hand-wringing is unfounded and things turn around. This could be one of those 20% seasons. It could. A lot of youth. A lot of pieces that are missing that have not yet come together. If Oregon State wins the first two against Washington, Oregon State will right back, where we were in 2007. And that turned into the best finish to a season ever, 10 straight wins, most dominant team ever at Omaha, and finishing only one inning behind the opponent. Oregon State sports are all about 99% of everyone thinking that we are dead and then pulling a game or a season out of the fire in improbable circumstances. 28 consecutive losing seasons to Fiesta Bowl in less than 13 months; beating #3 USC, #2 California, and #1 USC by a combined 11 points from 2006-2008; winning nine consecutive elimination games in baseball in 2006 and 2007 and an additional six consecutive elimination games in baseball in 2018 for good measure; and winning six straight into the Elite Eight on a one-in-15,000 run. If being an Oregon State fan over the past 25 years has taught me anything, it's almost never ever that bad and something magical is almost assuredly right around the corner. Whether that be a bad throw by a second baseman, a batted pass, a blocked field goal, a two point conversion, an improbable double-play, a boneheaded run, a tipped pass for a touchdown, or a baseball thankfully landing foul in the Fayetteville Triangle.

The 2023 Beavers would have to win four straight to catch 2012. The last team to start 16-7 was 2006 Oregon State. The 2023 Beavers would catch 2006 and 2021 Oregon State with seven straight wins. Oregon State is 5-6 in Pac-12 play. The Beavers have started conference play worse (2010) and better (every other year). However, the last year that Oregon State started 5-6 in Pac-10/12 play was 2007. And I believe that 2007 and 2023 are the first two years that Oregon State started 5-6 in Pac-10/12 play in the past 30 years. Oregon State caught 2012 at 18-9. 2012 and 2023 are now both two games clear of 2008. Those three seasons are Beavers' worst starts since 2004. The next-worst start since 2004 is the 19-8 start in 2006. Oregon State would have to win three straight to catch 2006 at 21-9. The Beavers would also catch 2021 with the same record. Of course, Oregon State would catch 2010 first with two wins at 20-9.

Of course, Oregon State would catch 2010 first with two wins at 20-9. Oregon State is 7-8 in Pac-12 play. Since 2004, the Beavers have started conference play worse (2010) and better (every other year). However, the only year that Oregon State started 7-8 in Pac-10/12 play since 2004 was 2007. Since catching 2012 at 18-9, 2023 Oregon State has remained tied with 2012. The 2023 Beavers have lost and won in step with 2012. The current two-game winning streak in 2012 turned into a six-game winning streak. The four wins, though, were against Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Portland, instead of Gonzaga and USC. 2023 Oregon State caught 2010 Oregon State with the win today. The 2010 Beavs lost the next two to fall to 20-13 and ultimately fell to 21-17 before starting to dig out of that mess. 2010, 2012, and 2023 Oregon State are each two games clear of 2008. Those four seasons are the Beavers' worst starts since 2004. The next-worst start was 2021's 21-10 start. 2023 Oregon State would need to win six straight to catch up with 2021 Oregon State. That would also tie the 2023 Beavs with 2016 Beavs. 2023 Oregon State is now two games back of the 22-9 starts in 2006, 2009, and 2015. The easiest of the three to catch would be 2015. The 2023 Beavs can catch the 2015 Beavs with three straight wins. 2023 Oregon State can catch 2009 Oregon State with a fourth win. The 2023 Beavs would need to win 12 straight to catch the 2006 Beavs but would catch the 2019 Beavs first at 31-11.
