I'd imagine that's SRO for Gill in the Gymnastics seating configuration.

I'd imagine that's SRO for Gill in the Gymnastics seating configuration. It definitely was SRO - I pointed to the people standing along all of the boundaries - up in the rafters and "behind the baskets" and told my buddy that is how men's basketball games used to be back in the '80s.......so if you've experienced that, you know what today's crowd was like for gymnastics. Definitely fired up the team, and they put in an inspired performance. Amazing crowd, amazing athletes and amazing result. A very memorable day! Go Beavers!

Got to see a lot of it on tv. Great to watch! Both teams were hitting their routines well. Great meet to win for the Beavs!

We'll be #11 in this week's rankings. We passed Auburn and Denver.
It is much better to be #11 than #13. At regionals, #11 is matched with #3, #6, and #14. #13 is matched with #4, #5, and #12. Since two from each region make nationals, the #11 just has to upset #6 and not get upset by #14. #13 has to upset #5 and #12.
Even better, at #11 there is a good chance that we'll get to be in a Denver regional that *doesn't* have Denver in it. If Utah maintains at #5 (they will drop from #4 this week), then the 4-5-12-13 regional will be at Utah. Denver is praying that they don't get the same regional as Utah so they can host. We're praying for the opposite.
(FYI: The regional locations are set for Utah, Denver, Oklahoma, at Pitt. Teams 1-16 get seeded without regard to location, but after the seeding is complete the NCAA decides which foursome goes to each site. So #1 Oklahoma is guaranteed to host. Utah is close to guaranteed to host. Denver is praying that they will host. Pitt is praying to even make it to regionals at all.)

Highest score for the Gym Beavs at Gill!
After a little bit of a slow start to the season, they have been totally impressive since.
PAC-12 Champs!

I never heard "GymBeavs" before this year. Googling around, there are only a couple hits, none older than last April. It shows up in a few press releases from the SID, and Jade used it in an Instagram post last fall. I don't know if it's just one SID staffer or a serious campaign.
The Red Rocks were mostly a reaction to the coaches not liking "Lady Utes" - which is a terrible mixed metaphor. "Lady Vols" is one thing - they still have debutante balls in Tennessee, after all. But "Lady Utes"?? In 1993 UU did a photo release comparing the "rock-solid" Utah women with the local geology and the nickname was born.
RedRocks is a good name. Other teams will try but none will come up with anything as creative or evocative. There are at least a few GymXYZ names out there - it's the "Wildcats" or "Bulldogs" of gymnastics.

"Gym Beavs" is just an abbreviated way of saying Beaver Gymnastics. NBD.

"Gym Beavs" is just an abbreviated way of saying Beaver Gymnastics. NBD. Is it? Arizona's team is officially the Gymcats. Georgia's is officially the Gymdogs. Not the Wildcats or Bulldogs, like other school teams. There are a few other examples of teams in other sports with their own mascots - e.g. UNLV Runnin' Rebels. Sometimes it's for marketing, sometimes it's just an accident of history.

I'll admit to being too busy enjoying the performances to care one way or another about it. It struck me as an informal nickname, kind of like how Aune called OSU Basketball the "Orange Express" back in the day.

Looks like Jordan Chiles (of ucla and Vancouver, WA) scored an all-around of 39.900 over the weekend against Iowa State. This means she bested the score of Jade Carey by 0.025 as Jade had a 39.875 at Stanford a couple of weeks ago. Here's hoping Jade seeks revenge this week! BTW, I heard that jimbeav prefers GymBeavs.
