Well, at least we lost in the most Beaverish ways possible. Whittling down a 12-point lead and having a real chance for a W and then getting ruthlessly jobbed by the refs for the fourth or fifth time to ice it.
It's only egregious, if you're an Oregon State fan.
Oh well.
Baseball season officially starts on Friday.

ASU scored 13 points off 11 turnovers. A lot of work to do. Will improve if all players stick for next year except for 2 seniors.

Another game stolen from us by the refs. The ghost of Rolando Blackman lives!

On the bright side, I guess fan interest isn't totally dead as this was the most active in-game thread I've seen on here this season.
There's no denying these guys are competitive as hell and play hard. I hope that everything we've heard about how much these guys love playing together and want to see this rebuild through to the end holds true because there are a lot of positives about the futures of a lot of these guys. Hopefully the incoming bigs can provide some help on the glass which was IMO the biggest weakness from a defensive standpoint this season and then another year of development gets better passing/ball movement out of the guards and wings.
The real challenge of this season starts now in keeping this team together. I think we all knew it wasn't going to be pretty this season, but that it would be better than last. That part's done, now it's selling the future of the program to the current guys and potential incoming transfers/recruits.

Hats off to Rodrigue Andela in his final game as a Beaver!
Huge games against UCLA, Oregon, and Loyola-Chicago in 2021.
Thanks for everything, Rodrigue! Best of luck in your professional career.
Also, hats off to Dzmitry Ryuny in his final games as a Beaver!

Memorable run. Loved the development Silva and Andela showed that season and how effective the bigs were during that run.

You can tell Tinkle enjoys this young group. This team is definitely enjoyable to root for, even amongst the youthful struggles. Need to see improvement next year, but some optimism. I'd like a job that pays me 3 million a year too. I'd even like the people I work with. Lol. Guess you should have gone into college basketball coaching. It sounds as if you know a lot more about the game than most.

Like alot of the players and hope they can develop.
Still don't like Tinkles coaching and worried his offense will be perpetually hapless.
61.4 ppg got us 357 of 363. Contract is down to 11.4 million.

That game was there for the taking last night. The refs didn't help, but we had so many open looks from deep, and went 3/18. We're not good enough to beat ASU doing that. Beavs made a good account of themselves last night, esp for the seniors. Will be an interesting off season. Now that WT has established the youth movement/rebuild, it's time to add some more pieces. NIT next year?

For the people grumbling about the offense, after 9 years, you should probably realize and accept that WT is a defense first coach. That's where the priority is, he wants to keep the score down in the 50's, probably because we don't have to top end talent to run with and outscore teams like UCLA, USC, UA, UO, etc. So, no high flying offense in the future unless you change the coach.

If hes not good at offense he should bring in assistants who are. Head coach needs to cover for their weaknesses with their assistant hires. He knows defense for sure. I think he's only had 2 seasons dip below top 150 for opponent fg%. Half the years he's in the top 100 and 2014-2015 it was #9. Unfortunately you can't win a basketball game by only playing defense. Even if the other team scores 0 your best outcome is a tie when the refs give up. Offensively you really can't look at ppg like I put up above as it's fairly disingenuous with the offense. It's a clock control offense so points are going to be low cause you are going to shorten the amount of possessions. If you are going to run the clock out you need to make the most of your opportunities with good shot selection and put your fg% and ft% as high as possible. In his 9 seasons his highest ranked fg% and ft% are 59 (2019), 33 (2020). Outside of 2018-2020 he struggles to get both those stats into the top 150 and some years FT% was dumpster fire 300s. This year was truly bizarre with fg% 331 and ft% 48th. We have all seen that the players are exciting and have potential and they can obviously shoot with ft% the second highest in Tinkles tenure. The problem is they are not being put in position for good shot attempts and they are just young so they miss under pressure. So yeah, next year is 10 years of Tinkle and he still hasn't found an assistant that can help him develop a clock control offense that creates opportunities. If we could consistently be in the top 75 for ft% and top 100 for fg% Tinkle would be a tough coach to beat.

The most common one word used by a losing team is "If". The most common two words used by a losing team is "next year".

If we could consistently be in the top 75 for ft% and top 100 for fg% Tinkle would be a tough coach to beat. The offense last night seemed to be designed to limit fast breaks the other way, methodical. Low risk and low reward. The Devils' bread and butter is speed. They play small and fast on defense, trying to get in passing lanes and disrupt with one big man to clean things up in case things go haywire. But look at the results. Four steals! That is the fewest number of steals that Arizona State was able to log in more than two months, the 73-65 win over Washington. And no Power Five team was able to limit Arizona State's number of steals in the past 25 games, the 63-61 win against Utah in Salt Lake City last year. No team has been able to freeze out Arizona State's pressure-transition scheme as well as Oregon State, since February 3, 2022, when USC beat Arizona State 58-53 in Tempe. Like that was a masterclass in almost completely eliminating your opponent's strength. It seemed like the defense was definitely working. The Devils scored more than seven points below their season average. The Devils did not get to break out in transition a lot, and the Beavers were able to limit points, when they did. It looked like almost everything went Oregon State's way, and then the zebras put their thumbs on the scale and Arizona State walked out with a W. Gross! But I mean, how would you have run things differently in the game? Oregon State looked like a much improved team over the final four games. Before that, it was much more hit and miss. A good, if disappointing ending to the season. But, hopefully, something to build on next year.

Much improved over the last four games? We got steamrolled by 10th place Stanford and squeaked out a win to 3 win cal.
